Smooth curtains of melted chocolate cascade from fountains, parting only to drench strawberries, bananas, and pretzels with a coat of sweet warmth. While Waterfalls of Chocolate doesn't have a map to a magical land of candy, they do set up and operate specialized chocolate fountains at parties and events, bringing with them milk, white, and dark chocolate and dipping foods ranging from fruits to bite-size cookies for an additional cost. Their tiered fountains can hold up to 11 pounds of chocolate to satisfy gatherings up to 200, an ideal choice to celebrate a wedding or a cloning experiments that worked too well.
What do neuroscience and beauty have in common? Park Avenue Blow Dry and Beauty Bar’s owner, Holli Christensen, marks both as career paths she’s conquered. After earning her master's degree at King’s College in London, the research scientist decided to ditch the lab coat and set her sights on cracking the beauty formula. Her first business––Kensington Makeup Artists––became a booming success, delivering on-location wedding makeup and hair for more than 150 brides and at least one confused catering assistant per year. Not only was she named one of _Phoenix Business Journal_’s Top Forty Under 40 in 2011, but she also found the inspiration to open Park Avenue as a permanent hub for clients who needed everyday services such as updos, highlights, makeup, and waxing. Today, Holli still caters to on-the-go beauty seekers by offering 30-minute mini facials or express blowouts. Those with more leisurely schedules can take their time choosing from six types of eyelash extensions that last anywhere from one night to six weeks.
Wrigley Mansion has been Phoenix’s grande dame for over 80 years, built as a 24-room estate between 1929 and 1932 by chewing-gum magnate William Wrigley Jr. as a 50th wedding anniversary present for his wife, Ada. However, the on-site Geordie’s Restaurant & Lounge is much newer – the Italian eatery opened in the 1990’s – but still retains the gracious elegance of the grounds with white tablecloth service and plenty of upscale entrées to choose from. Chef Robert Nixon makes his own pastas and breads, and plucks his own herbs from the Wrigley’s garden, then sends out statement dishes like the signature Bisteca alla Fiorentina, a 32-ounce Porterhouse for two, or tagliatelle tossed with daily seafood. The patio is extremely popular for periodic jazz nights and a sunset happy hour, though the gilded, baroque interior is nothing to shy away from, either.
