Flo Chan knows that true culinary inspiration draws upon an ever-changing and diverse pool of cuisines from around the world. That’s why each year, Flo’s top chef, Danny Lee, spends time traveling across Asia, sampling food on an unending quest for epicurean revelations. Since opening her first restaurant in 1997, Flo has brought her passion for food to life with a focus on super-fresh ingredients and classic dishes with contemporary twists. Today, at two locations, Flo’s staff serves up a vast menu of Chinese and exotic Asian cuisine, ranging from chicken-stuffed lettuce cups to moo-shoo pork.
Since 1991, Aqua-Tots Swim School's comprehensive eight-level program has turned thousands of hydrophobes into probes of the aqueous abyss. Levels range from tadpoles (little swimmers aged 6–18 months) to stingrays, a level for swimmers of any age who can already freestyle independently with sidestroke and backstroke, but want to refine their skills. Class capacity never reaches more than four students in order to provide focused, individualized instruction and equitable splitting of double Popcicles. An active board member of the U.S. Swim School Association, Aqua-Tots Swim School doesn't just teach children how to swim; the rigorously trained instructors are dedicated to making a difference in the kids' lives through confidence-building encouragement and early space training to give them an edge in moon-college admissions.
The certified divers at Ultimate Dive and Travel draw on years of experience to help students gain scuba-diving certification with and underwater savvy. Certification courses include classroom instruction, where students glean diving basics through textbooks, DVD lessons, and in-depth interviews with retired manta rays. Pool sessions help familiarize pupils with their equipment within the security and comfort of a swimming pool. The final legs of the course come with open dives at Lake Pleasant, where participants earn their open-water certification. Ultimate Dive and Travel is also an authorized dealer of subaqueous gear from brands such as Scuba Pro, Oceanic, Henderson, and Atomic Aquatic.
Wok Box Fresh Asian Kitchen's four menu staples—the noodle box, curry box, rice box, and banh mi—span Asia's diverse culinary traditions. Health-conscious recipes and preservative-free ingredients create entrees such as the Dan Dan noodle bowl (only available at Wok Box's Scottsdale location), which tosses together Shanghai-style noodles with veggies, extra-spicy chili-garlic sauce, and the diners' choice of meats or tofu. Thai red curry with bean sprouts and sprigs of fresh herbs top bowls of rice, and chicken marinated in coconut milk and lemongrass fill Vietnamese banh mi sandwiches. Just because Wok Box boasts multiple locations doesn’t mean the menu is 100% streamlined. Each outpost adds unique entrees to its menu, such as Scottsdale’s cheese-kimchi fire balls—panko-breaded balls of rice, cheddar, and kimchi drizzled in sauces.

Chop and Wok's chefs have dished up pork chow mein, mu shu chicken, and vegetarian egg rolls for locals for more than 27 years, but they just recently started doing it from a new kitchen. Chop and Wok's newly renovated location not only features updated decor?including funky striped walls and beer memorabilia?it also houses a full bar and sound system. After diners clean plates of spicy crab fried rice or apple chicken stir-fry, open mics or musicians take to the stage to play rock 'n' roll sets that last until closing?or until the sun pops back up over the western horizon to shush everybody.
