Beneath the golden tassels of draped curtains, powder-pink treatment tables cradle the reclining bodies of visiting clients. There, the staff of K.Ka Beauty And Health Spa performs European-style skincare procedures—including facials, massages, and body wraps—with nourishing products and innovative technology. Meanwhile, nail technicians pamper hands, feet, and the work-weary talons of pet messenger falcons with a range of artful manicure and pedicure services.

The Spaaaganza event at The Tranquil Garden, a 6,200-square-foot day spa and wellness community, is an opportunity to sample the centre’s cornucopia of beauty and holistic treatments without a yearly membership. Each event offers 10–14 different 20-minute services, and past Spaaaganzas have included such stress-vanquishing resources as express manicures, facials, foot reflexology, Indian head massage, and acupuncture. Based on the spa-goer's treatment choice, each session has the potential to whisk away tension, pain, and bouts of sleep growling. Additional 20-minute treatments beyond the one included can be purchased at the event for $20 each.

At Rainbow Cinemas & Magic Lantern Theatres, darkened auditoriums with flickering screens draw audiences into magical worlds where fish can talk, motorcycles leap canyons, and love comes even for those who eat crackers in bed. The auditoriums show recent blockbusters at 16 multiplex theatres that spread across Canada, each of which retains its own unique personality and honours any historic roots. In Edmonton, the Princess Theatre?s original 1915 auditorium, complete with balcony, golden drapes, and red walls, accommodates moviegoers with babies or pet hyenas inside a soundproof cry room. In Saskatchewan, the circa-1930 Roxy Theatre preserves the ambience of a Spanish courtyard. As guests find their auditorium at the Rainbow Cinemas Ontario locations, they can admire giant murals by local artist Fred Harrison.

Orchestra Toronto's inaugural 1955 season got right to the point. It had, after all, only one concert. That concert, however, made such an impact that the dedicated 55-member company, then known as The Bennington Heights Community Orchestra, continued to perform works alongside a string of renowned conductors until 1998, when it put its magical rings together and morphed into Orchestra Toronto. The largest distinction between Orchestra Toronto and other companies: it's truly a community project, corralling volunteer musicians to make up its 80-member team and deliver everything from Mendelssohn symphonies to flamenco concerts.

Shoeless Joe’s beckons to passersby with aromas of tasty grill fare—roasted chicken, ribs, and burgers. Named for White Sox outfielder Joe Jackson, who famously made a home-run catch with a bare left foot, Shoeless Joe’s pays tribute to the world of sport, supplementing AAA sirloin steaks, thin-crust pizzas, and pasta dishes with regular broadcasts of baseball, hockey, football, and UFC fights. Guests can wash down their dinners with drafts or cocktails from the drink menu, which boasts classic concoctions as well as inventive creations tinged with ingredients such as maple syrup, blueberry puree, or bacon.
