In class, Setareh Shahvaran is a science major, but professionally she's a photographer. At Seti Photography, her pictures are as diverse as her interests, spanning from weddings to nature to portraiture. As a Bay Area native, her photo shoots serve as a way to immortalize local people and places. Click here to take a peek at some of her work.
A family of four poses amid crisp fall leaves, late sunlight casting a warm glow across their smiling cheeks. A newlywed couple beams at each other under a canopy of palm trees. Staff members of a new salon hold a giant pair of scissors, poised to cut the ribbon and the hair of their first giant customer during their opening ceremony. ultra-spective's photographers can capture groups and individuals in nearly any context, and they take a distinctive approach to each—so much so that the studio boasts six different divisions, for family portraits, high-school seniors, art portraiture, weddings, boudoir shoots, and business photography. An all-female team with expertise in lighting and airbrushing directs the boudoir shoots, where they guide subjects in poses designed to make them look svelte and beautiful. For family shoots, they'll gladly venture to a selection of reliably picturesque parks where split-rail fences lean, redwoods loom, and sycamores dapple golden fields with shade. The studio itself has plenty of personality, with chandeliers and black walls lined with hot pink sequins.
Cruise around the city while brushing up on basic camera skills and honing an eye for composition during a two-hour photography workshop led by professional photon-wrangler John Ater, who has shot for the likes of Modern Luxury magazine and Dillard's. The workshop requires snap-happy shutterbugs to bring their own personal cameras, which may include traditional point-and-shooters, digital SLRs, or parlor-sized camerae obscurae. During the course of the photo trek, students are guided through the Mission, the Castro, the Embarcadero, or Chinatown, so comfortable clothes, shoes, and tracking devices are highly suggested. Check out the FAQs and view the current schedule and sign up for the workshop online.
Although booths from Fototales Photo Booths are lightweight and designed to deploy at events at a moment’s notice, they produce results intended to last a lifetime. Inside the canopy-styled booths, which can be set up indoors or outdoors, high-quality cameras sequentially click partygoers into immortality, digitally saving the images to a CD. Guests can flash naked faces or don props with impunity, as an attendant stays on hand for the duration of the rental to ensure problem-free operation.
