The 18-hole, par 72 Fox Bend Golf Course spans 6,890 yards of kempt fairways and rolling greens to form a well-maintained grassy monolith that has played host to three Illinois Opens and a 2010 USGA qualifier. Throughout the lush links, mature trees frame short-grass corridors peppered with a total of 34 sand traps and frequent water hazards that complicate each spheroid's passage onto slick, boldly contoured greens. Take a virtual course tour to begin preparing for the 175-yard shot needed to clear the par 3 15th's deep bunker fortifications while still landing the ball on the hole's relatively shallow green. Hone your fairway wood game to set up an eagle putt on Fox Bend's signature par-5 fifth hole, where bold duffers reckon with a watery ravine that sits right in front of the green and subsists on the souls of mishit orbs.
Aurora Roller Skate Center's gleaming wooden rink beckons wheel-hitched feet to orbit its oblong track beneath glowing white globe lamps. Gather four friends or nine members of the Walton family and lace up classic four-wheel skates before gliding through daily open-skate sessions (upgrade to inline skates for additional fee). A slew of special events and theme nights fill the skate center with movie and costume parties, and DJ Suave Smooth electrifies Friday and Saturday evenings with Top 40 hits and Schubert dirges that bellow through the rink's stentorian speakers as colorful lights flicker across the floor. On the sidelines, retro booths coddle weary gams, and skaters nosh on pizza and slushes from the snack bar or fawn over new trinkets from the novelty shop.
Below H2O pledges its loyalty to its scuba following, providing education, service, and equipment to dedicated divers. The dive center's PADI master instructors possess in-depth knowledge of the leagues below the sea. Classes are held in an indoor pool—a controlled environment free from sea currents and overly talkative dolphins. During the discover scuba class, dive disciples learn about equipment and safety before getting their flippers wet. The snorkeling class skips the tank, introducing newbies to basic snorkeling techniques, including proper kicking, surface dives, and airway control. All classes are small in scale—holding around four to six students—ensuring plentiful attention from the insightful instructors. Below H2O supplies all equipment; just bring a bathing suit.
Located on the shores of the Fox River, Fox Paintball has numerous fields suited for chromatic combat, along with a fully stocked pro shop. The Stonehenge field is comprised of a wooded area marked with ancient-styled barriers—ideal for both close exchanges and long shots—and is inhabited by a druid who officiates each match. The new Gauntlet field puts players among wrecked cars, a trench, sandbag bunkers, and a makeshift "power plant" building. Bunkers and two-story structures dot the other woods fields, and geometric inflatables provide protection from pigment projectiles and low-flying pigeons on the regulation XBall! field. Offering a respite between operations, the pro shop and concessions booth are stocked with eats, drinks, markers, and equipment by makers such as Empire, Tippmann, and Kingman. The park plays host to numerous tournaments and scenario games throughout the year.
A stone-lined fountain mists in front of Bolingbrook Golf Club’s 76,000-square-foot clubhouse, foreshadowing the 18-hole golf course that teems with pristine water features. Designed by prolific design team Arthur Hills and Steve Forrest—whose footprint of original courses spans the globe—the 7,104-yard layout plays alongside seven lakes that impede passage on multiple holes, including a par 3 with a true island green that players can access only by footbridge or buoyant golf bag. A particularly challenging course with a par 5 that's 600 yards when played from the farthest tees, the layout levels the fairways for players of all abilities with five tee options. Alongside the course, PGA Master Teaching Professional Carl Rabito—who was named one of Golf Magazine's Top 100 instructors—oversees the club’s driving range and Rabito Golf Academy, which help players to nurture their relationship with each wood, wedge, or hard-hitting spatula. The space includes grass tee and short-game areas, with lights on for night practice through the end of September. A clubhouse with men’s and women’s locker rooms and two full-service restaurants is available to maximize comfort and convenience during visits to the club.
