It wasn't until after she had graduated from college and raised her two kids that Jenny Scott discovered that her true passion lay in teaching others how to cook. Undeterred by the relative lateness of her discovery, she went straight back to school in order to pursue her calling. Now, the Le Cordon Bleu graduate teaches classes both at Williams-Sonoma and through her own company, Kitchen Essentials. In her home kitchen, she teaches students the fundamentals of Italian pasta making, Thai cuisine, and Southern fare, as well as tips for making sauces and not shaking hands while holding butcher knives.
Certified trainer, AJ Tucker, acquired myriad methods of staying fit while playing college football, training for jui jitsu, and during his four-year service with the U.S. Army. Today, he molds all that experience into a three-day-a-week boot camp that incorporates strength straining, a specialty class such as boxing, and a session designed for fun where participants buddy-up and complete a more light-hearted session of exercises. He also offers private boot camps that can be held at the office, school, or front yard.
Doug Rice creates a safe and supportive environment for athletically minded women. The trainer holds women-only boot-camp classes that get hearts pumping with a combination of resistance training, obstacle courses, running, core exercises, and sports-type drills. In addition to workouts, Doug helps clients change their unhealthy food habits with a healthy meal plan, which he personalizes for each client's needs.
Celebrating their 11th year in business this year, Transformation Boot Camp?s team sums up their philosophy on living in one simple phrase: ?We are never done.? In that spirit, Transformation Boot Camp celebrates positivity, teamwork, and the gallons of sweat that fuel people down the path to fitness. Each of the 4-week boot camps begin with a body assessment that allows students to track every ounce, inch, or percentage of body fat lost. To compliment the cardio-heavy circuit training, Transformation Boot Camp offers a set of Power Tools to help each boot-camp member hit their goals, including meal planners and refrigerators that make wisecracks about unhealthy food choices. All of this explains why Transformation Boot Camp was named Living magazine's "Best Weight Loss Program in North Dallas" in 2013.
Chrystal Rae and Andres Illera became best friends practicing yoga together, so it's no surprise that love is a fundamental tenet of Gaia Flow Yoga, their shared studio and registered yoga school. When describing the tenets of love-based yoga, Chrystal says that the practice hinges on the opening of the heart, which allows the spirituality of ancient yogic practices to blend with modern Western mindsets. So far, Chrystal and Andres have coaxed open the cardiovascular doors of more than 300 yoga teachers through their school, reaching exponentially more students and students? imaginary friends along the way. With 36 active instructors and three locations, they teach an endless stream of classes that combine the ideas of Hatha, Raja, and Bhakti yoga.
There are no large group classes at Fit N Pilates. Instead, instructors lead sessions of no more than four, guiding students through classic Pilates moves while focusing on form and technique. Owner and instructor Shannon Rene designed it this way in order for her students to get the most out of their practice, whether they want to increase their flexibility or tighten their core muscles before a big quarter-bouncing contest. Shannon, who is also a personal trainer and a registered dietitian, brings her expertise to each session, advising on proper movement as well as offering nutrition counseling.
