Six types of yoga work the minds and bodies of students of all skill sets in 45-minute lessons scheduled at convenient times throughout the week. The gentle class greets flexibles with easygoing exercises; the power core workout challenges bodies on a mental, physical, and molecular level. In the fun flow pose-fest, benders will practice a catalogue of yoga positions at a moderate pace against the aural backdrop of upbeat tunes. When and how did you first develop a passion for your work?
As a boxing trainer, I saw so many individuals who wanted desperately to obtain the benefits from a boxing/kickboxing workout, but had that look in their eyes when they saw the facility. [They] loved the equipment, but were anxious about working out with boxers—not really knowing what to do and how to do it, as boxing is not a structured workout. Did I mention the contact that goes along with boxing—getting hit? With this in mind, I looked for models that would be enticing to this demographic and allow everyone to enjoy the unbelievable benefits of boxing: learning real self-defense [skills] while shedding pounds, toning muscles, and building functional strength and agility.
What special training do you or your staff have?
We have a background in boxing and Golden Glove fighters and trainers. In boxing, it's not just learning the skills, but learning how to obtain peak conditioning and strength for a real-life battle.
What is the experience customers can expect, and how do you make it special?
You can expect to have fun and and learn a skill. The atmosphere is welcoming and the people are energetic. Weight-loss, strength, agility, and cardio are just the side effects from learning. That leads to a fun workout.
Is there anything else you want to add that we didn't cover?
Our website and Facebook have videos and a great deal of more information.
At CrossFit Kenosha, workouts transform exercisers of all levels into fit and confident champions. Encouraging coaches rally groups during functional fitness drills that build speed, power, and stamina with tools such as jump ropes, kettlebells, and gymnastics rings. A team-like bond forms as exercisers cheers one another through challenging routines that can be scaled to different levels of strength and endurance.
Weightlifting moves and body-weight exercises cultivate lean muscle mass, which helps the body to burn calories as efficiently as possible. Filled with cardiovascular challenges such as sprinting and rowing, the workouts can also shrink waistlines and bolster heart health. Like a snowman's fingerprints, no two workouts are alike, which helps to keep exercisers engaged and motivated.
Patricia Regner, a devoted mother with an MBA, has something else up her sleeve: she’s also the founder and owner of Miss Pole. After deciding that her life needed some serious changes, Patricia enrolled in pole-dancing classes and was so inspired, so enthusiastic, and so dramatically altered that she decided every woman should have the opportunity to feel confident, strong, and sexy. Hence Miss Pole was born.
At Miss Pole, she leads classes that explores fitness and physically challenging aspects of pole dancing fitness. She leads beginner, intermediate, and advanced pole-dancing classes that cover hundreds of moves that tone the entire body. Other classes include lap dancing, burlesque, and sexy/sassy stretching.
"If it's important to you, you will find a way. If not, you will find an excuse." That's the mantra by which CrossFit Outrival head trainer Kelli Rossow lives. And the philosophy has served her well, as evidenced by her CrossFit Level 1 and Russian Kettlebell Challenge certifications, her career as an MMA competitor, and even her reign as the Battle of the Bay's Bikini Contest winner in 2009. At CrossFit Outrival, she and fellow instructor Jennifer Rothwell refuse to accept excuses. By facilitating camaraderie among their CrossFit students, they create a supportive environment for them to get fit, despite the challenging nature of functional-movement CrossFit classes.
Sol D'Licious Café's owners, Dama and Lamar, have been vegetarian for the last two decades, and vegan for the last five years. Their commitment to all-natural food—and Head Chef Aaron Webb's Le Cordon Bleu training—shine through in the café's menu. The meat-free eats range from a black-bean burger topped with spinach, guacamole, and tomato slices to bowls of hearty vegan chili. Webb experiments with raw plates, too, such as a ginger-infused cabbage slaw. Funky juices wash down meals, including the sunset-hued blend of orange, carrot, and sweet-potato juices.
