At Bloomies on Main, a two-woman team strives toward a single goal: to create classically beautiful floral arrangements as unique as the events they celebrate. Designer Sorayah Azadan’s floral and interior-design degrees give her aesthetic expertise that she uses in her work alongside manager and head designer Sarah. Together, the two work hard to avoid the cookie-cutter bouquet look, and instead create fresh and tasteful arrangements for any occasion. Their best sellers include the Fashionista Blooms—a bouquet of yellow and pink roses and pink daisies. Another popular choice is the Fruit and Blooms basket—a handful of purple blooms atop a pile of bananas, apples, and oranges. They can also assemble flowers for anniversaries, new babies, birthdays, and the anniversary of a new baby, also known as a birthday.
The shelves at Color Me Mine’s studios teem with whimsical bisque-pottery pieces—pony and princess figurines, piggy banks, and kitty-cat mugs—each stark white and waiting for the brush strokes of a budding artist. That artist might be a birthday boy at a party or a grown-up unwinding at a girls' night out. No previous experience is required, as the studio staff dispenses plenty of painting tips, stencils, and artistic inspiration. Afterwards, the staff will fire the resulting pieces, which can then be used as décor or dinnerware thanks to Color Me Mine's lead-free, food-safe, paints.
AutoCouture's technicians spruce up shaggy automobiles with delicate hand washes and extensive detailing services. During the 30-minute hand scrub, caring cleaners nurse cars' outer shells with concentrated car shampoos and comforting factory rhymes. Technicians also shovel residue from fender wells and clear out grime from wheels and tires, gently dry the surface complexion with a hand-operated chamois, and finish off with air dryers. Drivers opting for the single-wash option sit back for another 15 minutes as vacuums comb the interior and snuff out any debris foolish enough to show itself.
A Discover Scuba session lets prospective merfolk blow bubbles, sip on canned Perrier oxygen, and experience an undersea underverse without the expensive investment in equipment and full-blown lessons. Under the watchful fish eye of an experienced, half-dolphin instructor, divers submerge into a warm-water pool, learning basic techniques and safety precautions while getting a feel for the gear, gizmos, and gadgets, while also experiencing the wonderful tingling sensations that are most certainly not jellyfish attacks, but miniature particles of thrill. There is one class offered per month; the next is June 6 in San Ramon.
Tired of being relentlessly teased by his older brother, Matt Johnson decided to head to San Diego State University and pursue a degree in kinesiology. Shortly after transforming his body and his life, he opened Dream Body Boot Camp in an effort to help others on their fitness paths. As the 2012 winner for Best Boot Camp by San Diego A-List and 2013 winner for Best Bay Area Boot Camp by CityVoter, Dream Body has brought its program to the Bay Area, sculpting muscles and shedding fat through intense 60-minute cardio and strength-training workouts instructed by Matt himself. Men and women of all fitness levels can sign up for the camp, as long as they’re ready to run sprints, do push-ups, and high-five someone other than themselves.
