The McGinnis Sisters specialty stores are run by the coincidentally named McGinnis sisters. This is a truly familial enterprise, founded by their mother and father in 1946. The daughters expanded the store's selection and gravitational pull throughout the years while still retaining the literal mom 'n' pop attention to detail and quality. Fresh and local products dominate the shelves in each of the cozy markets. Chicken and pork fill meat cases, while recently reeled catches grace the icy displays at the seafood counter. You'll find quality deli meats and even freshly prepared lunch sandwiches ($4.99–$5.99) at the in-house delicatessen. Follow your whiskers to sniff out locally acquired cheese or daily-made bakery sensations.
Levin Furniture has been passed down through generations of Levins since 1920, when Jessie Levin persuaded her husband to start a business to help their daughters' prospects. Since then, the business has grown, expanded, and gained a reputation for procuring and selling quality furniture. Levin Furniture's stock includes leather reclining sofas, beautifully carved dining tables, and sleigh beds from Daniel's Amish using hardwood materials from Ohio.
Allegheny Arts Gallery's instructors operate under the artistic eye of Robert Buchanan, an established purveyor of painted, sculpted, sketched, and vibrantly designed artwork. Each week, classes will comprehensively break down the techniques and workflows required to ease conceptual development. Elicit a smile from an inanimate object while pursuing still-life art, immortalize a mountain through carefully placed brushstrokes in the landscape art class, or canvas-capture the human body with a lasso of ink in figure drawing. Classes last two hours each.
Family owned and operated for more than 50 years, Imperial Cleaners employs a staff of experienced garment-cleansing specialists. Drop off unwashed digs and the highly trained team will pore over clothes, gently removing encrusted stains and dirty smudges from water-averse items such as sweaters ($5.50) and pants ($6.95). Prep a two-piece suit ($13.75) for a public appearance by removing the vestiges of past mud slinging, or wash away the inevitable buildup of creamy nougat filling that make dresses hard to wear ($13.50). In addition to clothing, Imperial Cleaners can also wash household items such as bedding and rugs.
