Each staff member at Life's A Beach Watersports is certified by NACWO, the National Association of Commercial Watersports Operators. The team uses its expertise to safely dole out adrenaline rushes, whether in the water or the air, to locals and tourists alike. Atop waverunners, ocean kayaks, or standup paddleboards, guests can finally help their goldfish find its deadbeat dad. The shop also rents out cabanas, chairs, and umbrellas for relaxing days on the beach, and package rentals grant their purchasers everything required to enjoy a day on the water.
Sky High Parasailing’s father-son team of Randy and RJ Stanfa introduces landlocked legs to the freedom of air travel with 15-minute parasailing adventures along the coastline and above the cerulean waters of Pompano Beach. After double-checking customers' harnesses, chutes, cables, and favorite Doctor Who episodes, Captain RJ pilots his custom-designed Nordic watercraft into open water. The boat’s 350-horsepower MerCruiser motor gently transitions parasailers from seafarers to stewards of the sky, flying at the highest legal height over Hillsboro Inlet Lighthouse and Pompano Pier. While human kites soar high above the boat, a photographer captures two memorable snapshots and saves them on a CD so visitors can later upload them on Facebook or print out copies to hand to doppelgangers. Rides conclude with a quick, refreshing dip in the ocean and a winch-assisted return to the boat’s deck for a soft landing.
It's another world underwater, populated with life almost alien. Making the exploration of that world accessible is why the founders of Scuba Network opened seven instructional scuba centers throughout New Jersey, New York, and southeast Florida. At all of the locations, certified divers lead Discover Scuba classes that allow first-timers to slip into scuba gear and see what it's like to breathe underwater and sprout their first gills. For those left entranced by the experience, Scuba Network offers an Open Water Scuba Certification course, during which learn a variety of scuba techniques in a pool before embarking on open dives. Scuba Network also sells all the necessary equipment from brands such as Mares and Aeris, and also organize dive travel packages to exotic locales such as the Galapagos and the Mayan Riviera in Cozumel, Mexico.
The flagship Bolo Intoxication vessel has been charting the warm Gulfstream waters since 1980, forming the teak-and-mahogany cornerstone of the entire FishBolo fleet. These up-to-date chartered boats carry groups out to the open water for everything from sport fishing to night swordfishing to champagne cruises. Licensed and experienced captains lead the fishing excursions, which explore the warm waters year-round in pursuit of mahi-mahi, king mackerel, tuna, snapper, and even blue marlin. These trips make it easy for novice anglers by providing licenses, tackle, and bait and outfitting their boats with fish magnets.
Inside the welcoming, homey Wellness & Motion Pilates studio, experienced instructors lead a variety of small Pilates classes that are open to all skill levels. In tower classes, groups of no more than five use equipment designed to develop good alignment and core strength, while reformer classes use spring resistance and rhythmic, flowing movements to take strength training to the next level. To start at the foundational level, students can opt for mat classes, which may incorporate weights, bands, or balls for a total-body workout.
