Q&A with Micki Lees, Owner

Besides making clients happy, what do you like most about your job?

Paddle boarding and kayaking is amazing fun and a great workout. I love to see all the smiling faces after a great day on the water.

Sometimes it's all about the little things in life. What supplemental courtesies do you include with your main services to leave clients with a smile on their face?

This year, we added a sandy beach with cozy chairs and relaxing palm trees. We also offer stand up paddle yoga, ladies night, full moon paddles, and party events.

What aspect of your job, or the services you offer, most often surprises people?

How excited we are to share the fun of being on the water, and how we treat our customers like friends. We will do what we can to help you enjoy your day.

Is there anything else you want to add that we didn't cover?

We are experienced and certified in stand-up paddle boarding, and we can answer questions and ensure your safety. We also have boards for sale, and we recommend trying a board before you buy.

When Joan Schaming and Ronald Williams opened Balic of Clinton in 2004, they wanted to make sure their clientele understood the importance of sampling wines before they commit to a bottle. In their shop, they hold daily tastings of their rotating selection of reds, whites, dessert wines, and specialty potables, which they recommend to pair with selections from their inventory of gourmet foods and chocolates.

Reber River Trips offer the best of what's old and what's new?via raft, kayak, or tube. Though their boat launch on the Delaware River is one of Barryville's newest, the Reber family has been helping guests who are exploring leisurely wilderness adventures in the region since 1947.

For a trip through history, the Rebers can direct boaters and floaters to especially well-preserved portions of the waterway, where adventurers can keep their eyes peeled for eagles and deer. Rod-brandishers reel in the river's plentiful assortment of fish, and party rafts host up to 20 revelers and up to three pi?atas filled with trout.

Whether you want to perform tricks on a wakeboard, balance on water skis, sail over wakes in a tube, or flip 360 degrees on an air chair, Lakeview Marina can fulfill your needs. The company rents out watersports equipment and speedboats?manned by drivers who know how to make an outing exciting?and its owner, Steve Halperin, is certified to teach any watersport.

Lakeview Marina also has options for those who want a more relaxing day on the waters of Lake Hopatcong, which is less than hour away from New York City but a world away from its bustling traffic and Godzilla attacks. The marina supplies these patrons with kayaks and standup paddleboards for some self-directed leisure time. Alternatively, guests can head out aboard a Grand Entertainer pontoon boat for an hours-long floating party. During these trips, the captain ferries parties around the lake on a boat that comes fully equipped with a bar, grill, refrigerator, margarita maker, and sound system.

In Jack Kerouac?s On the Road, narrator Sal Paradise has this to say about New York?s most famous river: "If you drop a rose in the Hudson River at its mysterious source in the Adirondacks, think of all the places it journeys by as it goes out to sea forever?think of that wonderful Hudson Valley." At Mountain Valley Guides, the kayaking team allows customers to heed Sal?s thoughts and explore the river's expanse of open water, marshes, islands, and cliffs.
