The Splash Dash Margarita Race rewards runners who complete its 3.2-mile course with?what else?an icy margarita. Non-alcoholic versions also make their way into the party so that anyone age 21 and younger can also raise a glass. Besides its signature beverages, the event will also feature an array of food from local vendors. Best of all, the race benefits Hubbard House, an organization that shelters victims of domestic violence.

The "Run" of the Glow Fun Run 5k's moniker is a bit of misnomer. While it is indeed a race where feet move faster than normal, most contestants won't be running across the finish line. They'll be dancing. Illuminating the double-looped course of The Oaks Mall perimeter, participants clad in glowing gear (and Halloween costumes, if they choose) boogie across 3.1 miles of incandescent joy masquerading as exercise.

Primed by a pre-race Zumba dance warm-up, contestants gambol out of the starting gates and keep a steady pace thanks to rhythmic support from nearby DJs hovering in the trees. The party keeps going after the race at the Glow Fest shindig, where DJs keep the tunes pumping, glowing gear giveaways take the drab from fall wardrobes, and revelers show off their best moves?and possibly win cash?during a dance contest.

Humans and canines come together for the University Commons 5K-9, a morning event brimming with races and parades in support of pet charities throughout Gainesville. The day commences with an 8 a.m. onsite registration, followed by a breakfast feast supplied by Mi Apa Latin Café, then a 5K (3.1-mile) race at 9 a.m. Participants can accompany their own pooches or bask in the general air of flying fur for a one-mile pup run and dog parade at 10 a.m., promptly segueing into the 10:30 a.m. awards and pet superlatives ceremony. From 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., a pet expo coincides with the racing and parading festivities, assembling professionals who preside over veterinary clinics, dog daycare centers, pet spas, and canine finishing schools to teach dogs proper annunciation.
