Standing at the Horticulture Centre of the Pacific?s birds, bees, and butterflies attraction, you?re liable to see all sorts of winged creatures descend upon the exhibit?s thriving canvas of blues, pinks, purples, oranges, and yellows. This is just one of more than 30 distinct areas designed and planted to showcase a wide range of gardening techniques, specifically those suitable for the Pacific Northwest.
The Centre?s nine acres of gardens feature more than 10,000 varieties of plants, most of which are labeled so they don't have to introduce themselves. You can explore the lily garden, the herb garden, and even internationally inspired Japanese and Mediterranean gardens. But because it has a total of 103 acres at its disposal, the Horticulture Centre offers more than just plants. It also boasts a bistro, a college for aspiring horticulturists, and even a library filled with more than 2,500 landscaping- and garden-related books and magazines.
Equipped with an in-depth knowledge of alcohol and service regulations, the experienced instructors at Fine Art Bartending School lead their students toward mixology mastery or job placement in the bartending industry during intensive eight-day courses. While many schools focus solely on the craft, Fine Art's instructors also hone customer service skills, teaching students tip-enhancing approaches and how to graciously deflect customer's attempts at Bryan Adams sing-alongs. Students can opt for a training course on the widely used Squirrel point-of-sale (POS) system, held on Saturdays at 9:30 a.m. and 1 p.m., for $65 plus HST. They also hold individual classes targeted at everyday drinkers, divulging industry-style instructions for blending specific drinks, performing difficult mixes, or pouring the perfect beer.
Victoria Academy of Dramatic Arts’ 11 instructors share more than two centuries of combined experience in the entertainment industry, heading up a yearlong, by-audition acting program designed specifically for television, film, and commercial work. Not everybody is ready to make the plunge into the screen, so the school also runs smaller-scale workshops appropriate for all experience levels that cover casting dos and don’ts, career guidance, and summoning the willpower to meet James Cameron’s third eye. The Actor’s Makeover course tightens audition material into 15 minutes of pure emotional power, and part-time intro classes accommodate day jobs.
The staff members at Sylvan Learning's numerous study facilities understand that each child learns differently. Therefore, they don't try to implement a uniform tutoring system; instead, they design custom lesson programs based on the results of standardized testing, diagnostic tools, and one-on-one interviews.
Tutors work with students from kindergarten through grade 12, illuminating topics ranging from basic reading and writing to remembering complex algebraic formulas without having them tattooed on your chest. Many of Sylvan's instructors work in local schools, so they are intimately familiar with common curricula and understand how to gear lessons toward optimal results.
As a nationally renowned tutoring program, Sylvan Learning Center helps kids catch up, keep up, and get ahead in school by utilizing a personalized tutoring approach to develop a learned legion of students of all ages. During the initial visit, your child will partake in a Sylvan skills assessment, which highlights any trouble spots or unflattering stripes and serves as a baseline for future progress.
