Fitness has been Strata Health Club owner Michael Wohltmann’s passion since he was a teenager. As a high-school football player, Goju USA karate student, and protégé to renowned Olympic strength coach Charles Poliquin, Wohltmann has gradually blossomed into a well-rounded, extensively certified instructor for others pursuing strength and fitness goals.
At Strata Health Club, he and his team of internationally certified trainers help clients build better bodies through one-on-one personal training and group fitness classes. When they're not teaching MMA-conditioning or spin classes, the personal trainers are helping teenage and adult fitness seekers tone up, stretch, and sweat with Strata's state-of-the-art Black Iron Strength dumbbells, satellite-TV-equipped Woodway treadmills, and TRX Suspension Trainers.
Strata's trainers further help clients overhaul unhealthy habits through nutrition consulting, the BioSignature body-fat-testing method, and an onsite inventory of nutritional supplements. A massage therapist is also on hand to knead away postworkout soreness and recurring dreams of being pursued by rolling barbells.
Soothing music and soft lights reveal The Yoga Sanctuary as just that—a safe and peaceful place where guests can cast stress aside. The studio's nationally registered instructors weave their global teaching experience into each asana as they strive for—and teach the importance of—inner peace and tranquility. They work individually with guests of all ages and fitness levels, unlike the NFL and most quilting circles. With this inclusive approach, the instructors help clients unite mind, body, and spirit in a wide selection of classes, strengthen cores with Pilates exercises, and also teach postures for beginner, intermediate, and experienced students. To further the restorative effects of yoga, the studio also hosts yoga therapy sessions to help alleviate such health issues as back pain and insomnia.
The Yoga Sanctuary's onsite massage therapist intuitively customizes her kneads and strokes to reduce stress and fatigue. This can also improve joint flexibility so that guests may easily slip into complex postures or cast-iron wetsuits.
At Healthy Fit for Women, an all-female studio, patrons team up with coaches to establish fitness- and nutrition-based programs. Supported by one-on-one feedback, group classes, and fitness equipment specifically tailored to the feminine physique, guests learn to effectively build muscle and lose fat. Their personal coaches draft meal and fitness plans based upon their food preferences and lifestyle habits to help them reach their fitness goals. The gym stocks equipment sized for the female frame, and classes such as Zumba and Spinning tone bodies with Latin-dance moves and cycling-based aerobics. For an extra boost of encouragement and a chance to gossip about the treadmills behind their backs, patrons can attend complimentary group support meetings.
Owner Nick Delury is one of Westchester Boxing Club’s top trainers and for good reason. He spent part of his 18-year boxing career training under Maurice “Kid Sharkey” Sposato, a seasoned coach that transformed Delury into a pummeling machine. Delury and his staff trainers, including a former non-athlete who flourished into a boxing guru with Nick’s help, preside over a circuit-style boxing gym where they cater to athletes who want to work out like pros without ever actually entering the ring. Open 24 hours a day, the gym allows patrons to move at their own pace with a trainer at their elbow or riding on their backs for an extra challenge. The instructors also lead group fitness classes and kids’ MMA classes, in addition to individual sparring sessions.
