FunFlicks Outdoor Movies’ inflatable screens transform backyards, gymnasiums, and parks into pop-up cinemas, complete with the accessories needed to screen media of all types. Helpful attendants drop off and set up the screen for an evening’s viewing, along with high-definition projectors, DVD and Blu-ray players, and booming audio equipment or an optional short-range FM broadcast. Screens in 12’ and 18’ sizes provide intimate viewing for groups numbering in the dozens, whereas behemoth 45’ screens can support audiences of more than 5,000 or act as a comfortable air mattress for a sleepy giant. The rentals can also be used to display slide shows, video games, and live television, and additional amenities such as popcorn machines provide guests with theatrical comforts.

Steiny’s Tavern honors barstool regulars with a rewards program replete with a special beer mug and VIP access to bar events—the first hint that Steiny’s is as much a community hub as it is a casual watering hole. In addition to honoring their regulars, owners Mama and Papa Bear Steinhurst have outfitted their parking lot with 20 bike parking spaces and furnish smokers with a heated outdoor smoking patio. The duo welcomes local bands and DJs many nights of the week and also shows sports broadcasts on 10 flat-screen TVs. A menu of barbecue specialties, salads, and sandwiches greets each diner, as does a friendly wait staff that encourages customers to chew every bite the recommended 32 times before swallowing.

Kids transform into dancers within the confines of Artistic Revolution Dance Studio—and parents can watch it all happen. In three dance rooms outfitted with viewing windows, instructors introduce students ages two and older to the worlds of jazz, tap, ballet, and other dance styles. Just like many of its students, Artistic Revolution Dance Studio's owners have been dancing from an early age. Kristina Rinke and Becky Stasyk lead the instructor team, and each brings more than 20 years of experience into the studio. While the instructors focus mostly on youth dance instruction, adults don't have to stay idle, everyone can tap their toes whenever they like.

Madison's Pub owners envisioned a pub that had it all under one roof. So when they discovered a 100-year-old, three-story brick building nestled in downtown Mount Clemens, it seemed like the obvious choice to fulfill their dreams. Just beyond glass garage doors, they set up a large hardwood floor with enough room for their patrons to dance or herd elephants, and they peppered the bar with over a dozen high-definition plasma TVs and an eight-foot big-screen TV with surround sound for sports fans to follow the Tigers and Redwings. Owners also set up a smaller bar at the front of the building to give guests a quieter place to chat. As everyone's bound to work up a hunger from all the activity, the pub's chefs devised a menu of hearty burgers and sandwiches, as well as specialties such as mac ‘n’ cheese and beer-battered fish ‘n’ chips.

At Your Mothers, feel-good pub fare keeps bellies balanced as patrons slurp down selections from a wide range of beer and spirits that lurk behind a bright wooden bar. While keeping an eye on the sports game, comrades cluster around baskets of twice-fried buffalo wings, licking one of 17 sauces—including six barbecue sauces and five fiery hot sauces—off their own fingers and friends’ faces. In addition to chicken sandwiches and burgers topped with bacon or olives and feta, the kitchen turns out grilled slabs of ribs tossed in house barbecue sauce. Thick pizzas, made with small-batch doughs and topped with family-recipe sauce, include a roasted-garlic-and-portobello variety and a caribbean chicken pizza, lightly garnished with jerk seasoning after being reeled in from Jamaican waters.
