Founded by brothers Dominic, Carlo, and Marco Commisso—members of a multigenerational Italian family of hairstylists—C3 Salon provides follicles a place to go for rejuvenation at the hands of expert stylists and the Kérastase line of products. The brothers and their supporting team stay abreast of current trends, combining their accrued knowledge with their diverse skills to cultivate sleek, modern looks that have been featured in numerous fashion shows, photo shoots, and training classes.
Surrounded by C3 Salon's glossy environs and vibrant, contemporary murals painted by Dominic, stylists conduct thorough consultations before every service. They then showcase intricate scissor choreography and sculpt locks to client specifications.:m]]
Brothers Dean and Al Melchiorre are devoted to keeping their business in the family—since 1979, a Melchiorre has always been happily stationed in dé-al salon, including Dean’s own daughter, Olivia, who took over as lead stylist in 2006. Olivia oversees a team of stylists as they pick and choose the perfect products for their clients from a range of Semplifi haircare products, a line developed specifically for use on all hair types. Alongside the stylists’ scissors work, a stable of nail technicians ply their trade, coloring nails with traditional, UV-gel, and Shellac polishes. The salon’s clean, bright space looks even cleaner and brighter thanks to white tile floors, white ceilings, and mirrored walls, and delicate pink blossoms tucked into terra-cotta pots brighten up the space with their vibrant hues.
Ofra Amy Grinbaum, founder of New York Laser Aesthetics, has many years of experience with aesthetics. As a New York State–certified aesthetician, she leads a team of fellow licensed technicians who share her passions. Together, they wield such technology as an Epicare aesthetic laser, a Zerona cellulite-reduction machine, and a Biologique Recherche facial-sculpting machine designed to firm and tone complexions.
Because some of these procedures can irritate the skin, an FDA-approved Zimmer cooling system is kept on-hand to soothe treated areas with a stream of chilled air similar to one emitted by a whistling snowman. Grinbaum also has years of experience with laser techniques for toenail care, including the use of an FDA-approved laser for toenail fungus treatments.
AHS The Laser Salon's board-certified doctors and licensed aestheticians fight unwanted hair, signs of age, and unsightly veins with cosmetic lasers in an office characterized by neutral colors and antique furnishings. During laser hair-removal treatments, trained techs reduce unwanted hair with noninvasive energy pulses. Similarly, the center's spider-vein treatments employ AHS’s exacting photons to zero in on the offending red, blue, and purple veins with a prescribed dose of energy, cordoning off trouble spots from surrounding areas and laser-happy kittens. The team also rejuvenates faces with beauty injections, such as Botox and Juvéderm, photofacials, chemical peels, and custom facials.
Co-owners Anthony DeFranco and René Spagnolo employ years of experience styling international fashion shows and magazine photo shoots to guide their team of stylists, aestheticians, and massage therapists. Always apprised of the latest styles and declarations from the president's hair czar, stylists keep clients' preferences in mind while creating new 'dos with Nolla hair products. Their aesthetician brethren further gussy up physiques with cleansing facials, waxing and electrolysis services, mani-pedis, and professional makeup applications. Inside either of DeFranco Spagnolo's sleek salons, hardwood floors and minimalist décor instill a haute elegance found only on the runways of Paris and LaGuardia.
With almost two decades of hairstyling experience under her belt, owner Faina helms Fa-El Salon, where she and her skilled staff design hair according to current fashions and their clients’ whims. The stylists pride themselves on matching hairstyles to individual tastes and body types, sticking to Faina’s philosophy that a successful haircut must reflect—in ways loud or subtle—its wearer’s personality. While stylists pace around salon chairs in search of choppable cowlicks, aestheticians tend to other body parts with exfoliating facials, mani-pedis, and waxing treatments that remove nascent moustaches and signs of lycanthropy.
