At Paragon Salon and Spa, relaxation begins before any official service. In the waiting room, visitors sip free refreshments, their necks swaddled in complimentary wraps. Gentle music and therapeutic scents waft through the air, creating a calming atmosphere.

The team members’ aesthetic services only enhance this initial experience. Their deft hands can craft custom cuts, brighten natural hair color, or banish aches and pains with massage, reflexology, and energy work. They also can enhance complexions with facials and highlight nails with manicures and pedicures.

"Hara" is a term for a person's energy center. Hara Holistic Bodycenter earns that name by giving its clients a place to reenergize through therapeutic bodywork. The center’s cocreators and licensed massage therapists draw on studies in Eastern massage and holistic bodywork to reduce stress and chronic pain with their massage and skincare services. Botanically based products smother skin during facial treatments to cleanse and restore complexions worn down by seasonal stressors and environmental impurities. A collection of massages helps heal physical ailments such as headaches, neck and shoulder pain, and tension that comes from constantly hiding a handcuff key in your cheek.

Soothing yellow walls and sleek hardwood floors greet patrons in a healing space that invokes the chi-rejuvenating elements of the natural world. Lush, green plants stretch out their leaves to tickle weary muscles, and a wall of branches filters the warm sunlight that seeps through a thin screen in the window.

Q&A with Brian Chadbourne, Owner

Besides making clients happy, what do you like most about your job?
The problem-solving aspect. I love reaching into my "tool bag"—massage, reiki, polarity, and reflexology—and creating the most-effective session for each client.

A contemporary dancer, Kristen Stake understands more than most how the body moves. In fact, while she was practicing contact improvisation dance, she learned a variety of bodywork modalities, including Thai yoga massage and shiatsu, and decided that she wanted to become a massage therapist.

At Embody Center, Kristen blends multiple massage styles, including the aforementioned techniques, craniosacral therapy, and reflexology, to reenergize her clients and deepen their relationships with and awareness of their own bodies. Kristen also works to alleviate physical tension, decrease anxiety, and loosen limbs so they can snake under vending-machine doors.
