PDX Hunt pits teams against each other during treasure and beer hunts as they scour cities in search of checkpoints in order to win cash and prizes. Hunts are held in various cities across the country, with teams getting acquainted with their own city and one another as they fight for bragging rights. Text-messaged clues point contestants in the right direction, leading them to secret locations to which they then dash like dogs to spilled hot-dog water. At various locations, crews must complete unique tasks. Moving on foot or city bus, groups must stay together at all times, lest wanderers fall prey to competing gangs or become distracted by lurking shadow puppeteers. After the races, which can sometimes cover 4–6 miles, the top 10 placing teams receive prizes and glory for their skillful navigation of the town.
Run by a team of Portland fanatics and passionate cyclists, Pedal Bike Tours shares their enthusiasm for the city through entertaining and accessible tours. The routes take advantage of Portland?s extensive network of bike lanes to meander through downtown, along the Willamette River, and through lush Forest Park. Each guide?s expertise comes in handy on food tours and microbrewery tours, as riders stop for bites or pints and soak up info about each of their stops. A few tours take riders beyond Rose City limits, and include van trips to explore Oregon?s coast or wine country. Pedal Bike Tours keeps tours as safe and comfortable as possible by providing helmets, locks, and lights, as well as rain jackets and jousting lances if necessary.
The Urban Dare Adventure Race is a fast-paced competition that challenges two-person teams to decipher clues, navigate the city, and perform playful stunts. Combining the bustle of a track meet with the brain-taxing sleuth work of a luge competition, the race uses a dozen trivia-based clues to lead contestants to checkpoints all over their sprawling metropolis. Location hunters reach their checkpoints by whatever means necessary, be it hopping a bus downtown, flying madly through a network of secret ziplines, or scuba-diving in a fountain for bus fare. At the mini destinations, racers must use a camera to document their presence or, in some cases, get their passports stamped after completing challenges that may include a climbing wall or solving a riddle.
