  • Meko Sauce
Ghanaian cuisine leans heavily on a sauce combining peppers, onions, ginger, oil, tomatoes, and shrimp. The pepper and ginger slice through the gentle acidity of tomatoes and the sweetness of shrimp, complementing both meat and vegetable dishes. The cooks behind Delight of Africa started out making batches as a favor to friends and family. Today, they still follow a recipe for the sauce handed down from their grandparents, using only fresh ingredients and never adding preservatives or food coloring. They also hold cooking lessons, teaching groups to re-create traditional West African recipes and broaden their horizons without the dangers of touching a spinning globe.

  • Aquila Glass School
Breaking with the no-nonsense vibe of the shop?s warehouse exterior, Aquila Glass School?s brightly painted loading-dock door hints at the vibrant creativity that waits inside. The full-time working studio simmers with nine kilns as students create their glass into plates, beads, boxes, or Christmas tree ornaments. Students cut their teeth on introductory classes that teach fusing and studio safety, then graduate to more advanced skills such as torch work and marble making. The expansive facility also offers 68 hours of open studio time each week, where graduates of introductory classes return to further their education with more classes or create independent projects with free use of the facilities, tools, and instruction books made entirely of stained glass. • Center GYROTONIC
Center Gyrotonic's spin-savvy teachers whirl students through a sequence of workouts designed on creating circular and spherical movements with the body that loosen limbs and increase strength. Muscles, bones, and joints rotate and stretch during the supervised one-hour Gyrotonic sessions, which employ specially made equipment in order to increase the body's range of motion and tolerance for being shaken by giant children. Instructors tailor these private, machine-oriented sessions to each student's needs, whether to help with injuries or increase physical wellness. The pair of one-hour Gyrokinesis classes ditches the Gyrotonic equipment, perching students instead atop a stool and sending them through 100 stretches and bends designed to use the shape of the skeleton to give tissues a massage.
