Adam and Jennifer Pismeny have always been passionate about fitness. They both became involved with sports at a young age: Jennifer enjoyed swimming, cheerleading, and dance, and Adam focused on activities including soccer and BMX racing, qualifying for state-level meets and competitions along the way. Perhaps as a facet of their team-sports experience, the duo also has a long history of helping others. Jennifer, who has struggled with weight concerns, obtained her undergraduate degree in elementary education, and both of them became certified personal trainers to guide other people toward achieving personal health goals.

Along with trainer Joe Boozer, the Pismenys share their knowledge and experience at Hampton Roads Adventure Bootcamp, which is part of one of the largest boot-camp organizations in the world. Their program was designed by fitness expert John Spencer Ellis to build strength and confidence via a combination of motivating, varied workouts and nutritional guidance. The team hosts sessions five days a week all year long, leading groups of about 30 women through exercises that can be modified for all skill levels or any number of extra biceps.

Richmond Olympiad trains winners, whether they've swept competitions or not. The facility is known for being Richmond's USA Junior Olympic Training Program, but every student who comes here as a preschooler, starter, or advanced gymnast gets the same kind of tools to succeed. Younger students gain confidence during Kindercise and Parent & Tot classes that introduce kids to gymnastic physicality with swinging and climbing. Then as kids progress, they can advance to introductory and Medalist classes, or Advanced Medalist classes if they wish to learn about gymnastics and producing steel alloys. Students may go on to enter competitions up to the professional level or take gymnastics classes for the pure enjoyment and sense of self that the sport and trainers here encourage.

Romp n' Roll’s energetic instructors inspire parents and children alike to get on their feet and learn in structured play-based educational classes. In small groups, kiddies engage with their peers and their environment during interactive lessons, such as dancing sessions or art explorations, which nurture their physical and mental development. Instructors keep their lessons lively by infusing play into each assignment. Outside the classroom, the staff hosts indoor play time to give kids a place to safely unleash any remaining energy. Parents can attend classes with their kids to spend quality time with their offspring and finger-paint something other than office budget reports.

Inside CrossFit Little Creek, members swings kettlebells over their heads, climb ropes that dangle from the ceiling, and jump onto wooden boxes. The flurry of activity isn't what you'd see at a typical gym, but it's just another workout for these folks?each of their classes incorporates Olympic weightlifting, gymnastics, and other exercises for functional fitness. Students conduct their WODs under the guidance of certified trainers, who make sure that everyone uses the correct form and guttural cries. Members can even exit the warehouse-like space for private workouts in a 6,000 square-foot outdoor area, or skip over to Pretty Lake or Chesapeake Bay for sessions by (and in!) the water.
