Crunching metal and the sweet smell of burning rubber prevail as the Monster X Tour invades the Ocean Center, thrilling all ages in an action-packed motorsports showcase. Bigfoot, the forefather of all station-wagon smashers, leads a fleet of competitive 10,000-pound monster trucks, including Bear Foot and Black Knight, through jaw-dropping races, wheelie contests, and freestyle car composting. Transaurus, a two-story transforming robot that never learned to love, buries his woes by chomping entire cars in his massive jaws while watching reruns of Felicity. Before the show, VIP tickets also grant access to the Pit Party, where fans can have autographs signed by the drivers. During intermission, fans get the opportunity to eschew sea level with a ride inside a monster truck or visit General Lee from The Dukes of Hazzard and learn its true feelings about excessive hood sliding.
In lieu of mainstream Hollywood movies, the Capri Community Film Society screens an eclectic mix of contemporary independent and foreign films at its movie house, The Capri Theatre. In addition to the latest releases, the society also finds time to project repertory classics such as Vertigo and The African Queen back on the big screen. Besides indie and old-school cinema, the 1941-built theatre invites children to animated summer matinees and occasionally hosts directors for Q&As following their movies.
This rendition of the J.M. Barrie–penned childhood classic stars Sarah Litzsinger, the longest-running Belle in the Broadway production of Beauty and the Beast, and features well-known songs such as "I Won't Grow Up," "I'm Flying," and "Pirate Song." A source of nostalgia for adults and an early introduction to magic, wonder, and spandex tights for the young, Peter Pan is exciting and engaging for all ages. Watch as Pan leads his wily pack of Lost Boys away from grown-up responsibilities such as showering or tax returns, all while the villainous Captain Hook seeks five-fingered revenge on the Neverland hero. And if the play's the thing, the theater itself is the other star of the show. The complex, constructed of more than one million bricks, is set in a scenic 250-acre park featuring English-style grounds, a lake, and an authentic invisible Loch Ness monster.
Each fall, when the pumpkins are plump and the corn grows high, Dream Field Farms and Pumpkin Patch welcomes the public to its acres of family-friendly fun. Wander through the pumpkin patch to find the perfect canvas for carving a jack-o-lantern or place bets on the fastest looking piglet during high-stakes pig races. Elsewhere, a cow train chugs along toting passengers as little ones converse with farm animals inside the barn.
As an award-winning studio, the Alabama Dance Theatre preps professional ballerinas for the stage and delivers classically driven performances to area audiences. The company’s production of The Little Mermaid foregrounds the Hans Christian Andersen fairytale of mermaid love with dazzling, bipedal choreography and vibrant music. ADT's resident choreographer, Sara Sanford, invokes the longing of the titular mermaid’s desire to walk on land, find her one true love, and plausibly eat a bowl of soup. The show includes an additional live choir performance arranged by Foye DuBose, a comedic ballet, and a new abstract piece. Premium ticketholders receive a front-center orchestra-level seat, and regular ticketholders are granted a prime spot in the mezzanine. Check the seating chart for additional information. Guests can pick up their tickets at the Montgomery Performing Arts Centre from February 28 to March 4, and it is recommended that will-call tickets be snapped up at least 30 minutes before show time.
