Oasis Dream Spa's staff aims to offer guests a Parisian-themed refuge from everyday life with facials, revitalizing body wraps, and mani-pedis that, in keeping with the spa's theme, include complimentary French tips. The massage therapists are skilled in nearly a dozen massage modalities, enabling them to stimulate circulation and relaxation with Swedish massages, relieve pregnancy symptoms with prenatal massages, or help snowmen lose weight with hot-stone massages. Oasis Dream Spa's fat and cellulite reduction treatments target trouble spots through a variety of methods, including radio frequency devices, which break down fatty cells and stimulate collagen production for smoother, firmer tummies, hips, or thighs.
Deep-seated stresses dissipate at the hands of Limback Wellness Center's certified massage therapists. The center specializes in hot-stone and hot-towel massages, which employ penetrating heat and soothing circular motions to boost circulation, oxygenate muscles, and alleviate the lingering stiffness that comes from serving as the spring festival’s Maypole. Aside from their popular heated modalities, the team of male and female massage therapists treats clients to gentle relaxation massages and more focused deep-tissue work.
Slim Trim Spa supplies all-natural weight-loss supplements to clients and specializes in modern services tailored to a variety of wellness needs. Ultrasonic cavitation heats up microscopic air bubbles to break up fat cells in problem areas then safely and naturally metabolize them out of the body. A number of massage modalities, including sports, deep-tissue, and trigger-point therapy, can assist the detoxifying effects by stimulating circulation and energizing muscles.
At NuSpa Medical, a physician-led med spa, licensed aestheticians treat complexions with one of five facial therapies after diagnosing epidermal ailments during a detailed skin analysis. The deep-cleansing facial ejects oily buildup with miniature slingshots, allowing pores to breathe in mists of steam before a therapeutic mask calms blemishes. Sun-damaged skin rises above pigmentation issues thanks to the vitamin C- and seaweed-infused luminous-glow facial, and fine lines flee following exposure to the anti-aging B5 gel of the reconditioning and firming treatment. The men's refining treatment first weeds ingrown hairs from skinscapes, then massages faces to power circulation and applies a tightening mask to firm skin that's become loosened from having too many clothespins stored on it.
We spoke with Jack Macaluso—Regional Social Media and Web Coordinator at Beauty Schools of America—about how the academies prepare students for careers in the real world and why it's important for the schools to give back to their communities.
On the schools' mission
Above all else, Jack says that the schools "try to focus and harness the students' creativity," while giving them all of the experience and practical skills they need not simply to be prepared to enter the work force, but to succeed and thrive. The relatively lengthy training programs ensure that aspiring stylists, cosmetologists, makeup artists, barbers, and massage therapists fully understand the intricacies of their chosen specialty, as well as what they need to do to continue advancing their future career according to Jack.
On the role of the instructors
With a roster of instructors that includes industry professionals with international spa and salon experience, Beauty Schools of America strives to give attendees a broad view of the numerous options open to them. Jack is also clear that the teachers' guidance isn't limited to classroom environments. When the advanced-level students are allowed hone their talents by performing treatments for actual clients, "an instructor or two will always be there to assist and answer questions," he says.
On the products that the students use during treatments
Students use brand name products like Moroccanoil, Sojourn, Nioxin, and others. Working alongside their instructors at modern service stations, these stylists use these products to craft en vogue cuts, color, styling and therapeutic practices.
On the schools' charitable involvement
Beauty Schools of America embraces opportunities to give back to its communities while providing real-world experience for students at the same time. Jack goes on to describe events where the schools' aspiring barbers and cosmetologists performed complimentary services for underprivileged residents, and he mentions one specific occasion when massage students provided free treatments for community members who participated in a bike ride dedicated to raising awareness about multiple sclerosis.
The aestheticians and massage therapists at Wax Art Spa work every day to refute the age-old adage that beauty is skin deep. Fittingly, their treatments are designed to foster natural positive energy and holistic wellness, with services including natural aromatherapy massages, multivitamin facials, and sunless tanning spray infused with whole leaf aloe vera and beet sugar.
This sunless tanning blend is just one of the spa's many inventive treatments. The Luma firm facial tightens skin and increases elasticity with a natural blend of serums. Clients often opt to smooth out skin with a preservative-free green waxing treatment, which uses a waxing substance derived from organic pine and beeswax that's kept at a cooler temperature to minimize irritation. Technicians also leave bods beach-ready with a Vajazzling treatment, which dresses up the midriff and bikini area with colorful gems mined from Paris Hilton's system of underground caverns.
