Discount Tire’s professional technicians install and service a vast trove of tires and wheels to keep wagons rolling safely. Experienced, trained mechanics manage an inventory replete with tires by brand names such as Goodyear, Michelin, and Bridgestone ($60–$100/tire for most vehicles) and a huge range of wheels ($50–$100/wheel for most vehicles). Proud owners of newly outfitted buggies receive advice on how to improve their rubber-road marriages or ability to do donuts on the lawns of rival librarians. Along with recommendations on products and services, tire installations include new valve stems, road-hazard protection, and lifetime rotations.
Originally founded in 1959 by Kurt Ziebart as Ziebart International Corp., Ziebart has morphed from an auto-rust-prevention outfit into a full-service auto accessory and detail shop that has cropped up at some 400 locations in 30 countries. Performing everything from window tinting and professional detailing to electronics installation, Ziebart's experienced staff cares for cars with high-end products, including seasonal paint protectant and the company’s renowned rust inhibitors. To protect cars inside and out, Ziebart technicians also install accouterments such as alarm systems to thwart thieves and sunroofs to thwart unflattering film negatives from processing correctly (services may vary by location).
All of the technicians at Wheeling Auto Center have received the highest level of Master certification from The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence. They will put their expert hands to work replacing old, worn-out oil with fresh-faced young fluid, straight from lubricant college and ready to take on the heat, dust, and incredible pressures of today's high-octane internal-combustion world. To help new oil adjust to its new job of safeguarding precious moving parts, gaskets, and various shafts, a fresh oil filter is included (oil change, filter, and lube, a $26.95 value). All four of your buggy's tires will be rotated to avoid preferential wear and tear (an $18 value). New wiper blades are installed to tackle the tough work of cutting through the inches of ice and snow that will coat Chicagoland windshields from November until early May (up to a $40 value). Your horseless carriage will then undergo a comprehensive vehicle inspection, including a complete brake inspection and electrical-systems test (a $49.95 value).
Almost a century ago, it was 1914 and William J. Cassidy was gazing out from his livery stable to watch the newfangled automobiles rumble past on Roosevelt Road. He knew then that he’d been right to expand from shoeing horses to also servicing tires. Never having children, Will took his 16-year-old nephew, Hugh, under his wing in the venture. When Will retired, Hugh took over and kept the company afloat even during the bleakest days of the Depression and WWII. Hugh’s six sons all followed in the family footsteps, opening additional locations in the suburbs, and then their children opened even more.
Today, those descendants operate 15 Cassidy Tire & Service locations throughout the city and suburbs. The Cassidy experts keep vehicles running smoothly as they grow old by practicing a full range of other auto services, from rotating tires to changing oil and flushing transmissions.
Auto Fix draws on their parent company's deep wells of experienced, ASE-certified technicians to staff their seven garages in Illinois and Indiana. The full-service shops keep cars running with oil changes and thorough vehicle check ups, and they routinely flush power steering, radiator, and transmission fluids. Having spent years working with vehicles, Auto Fix technicians can repair any part of the car from the suspension to the fuel system. They're confident in their repairs as well, offering any client a 12-month or 12,000-mile guarantee on each fix. The team also renders problem-precluding services such as full safety inspections, shocks and struts service, and tire rotation—which does not mean enforcing who’s up next on the backyard tire swing.
Winner of the Daily Herald's Readers' Choice 2011 award for best car wash, Raceway Car Wash and Detailing plies and pampers weary autos with award-earning soft-cloth car washes and meticulous detail packages. During each 10- to 15-minute deluxe exterior wash, soft cloths liberate paint and chrome from roadway grime, oily deposits, and old Datsun tattoos before deft hands whisk away lingering moisture with thirsty towels. An undercarriage wash combs the car's undersides for asphalt-born buildup, a wheel-shine rim cleaner grooms the tires, and applications of clear-coat sealer wax gild the shell in a glossy element-repelling shine. Technicians then tidy up the whitewalls and rims, giving wheels a fresh sparkle and sense of highway swagger.
