Every day for the last 35 years, the staff members at Gymnastics Unlimited sanitize the more than 15,000-square-foot facility. Child-sized hands and feet bound off the surfaces during recreational gymnastics classes, birthday parties, and summer camps.
Hugo Cherre is an expert when it comes to teaching gymnastics to children, for he was once a child gymnast himself. The owner of Hugo's Gymfitness has been practicing the sport his entire life, a devotion that culminated in becoming the National Gymnastics Champion of Peru and a member of the U.S. gymnastics team in the 1984 Olympics. He employs his expertise to help his students reach their goals, whether they want to compete internationally or learn how to cartwheel their way out of a fight.
In addition to gymnastics, Hugo leads programs in cheerleading, dance, martial arts, and even rock climbing. His facilities are well equipped to host such a wide variety of sports, outfitted with foam pits, a tumbling floor, a climbing wall, and a spectator area where parents can watch and cheer.
Starting kids as young as 12 months on the path to strength and confidence, the instructors at Fun & Fit Gymnastics hope to build foundations that will shape their students for the good. The philosophy here centers around finding the best class for each child. In that process, instructors pair kids with others of similar age and ability levels to develop not just athletic skills, but social ones too. The enormous facility also contributes to the curriculum, with a 50-foot spring-suspended tumbling floor, beams, bars, vaults, trampolines and a 5-foot-deep foam-filled pit used for fun and to enhance safety.
In 1976, Joan Barnes—a Californian mom frustrated with the lack of spaces where she could take her kids for safe and age-appropriate play time—took matters into her own hands and founded Gymboree Play & Music. In the decades since Gymboree’s founding, Joan’s vision of a safe place where youngsters could build confidence and creativity has come to fruition and spread to 30 countries around the globe. Staffed by attentive and expertly trained instructors, each Gymboree outpost adheres to a curriculum of activities designed by experts to foster the development of children’s’ cognitive, physical, and social skills through structured play and close readings of Goodnight Moon. The staffers also conduct entertaining classes that cover subjects ranging from music to sports, imparting valuable lessons of imagination and physical activity to developing minds. To further set apart her business, Barnes employed nationally renowned playground designer Jay Beck to design the proprietary play equipment at her centers.

Before Hayden Panettiere starred as a cheerleader with superpowers in NBC's Heroes, she had to train for the role. Her training grounds: West Coast Rush Cheerleading. Helmed by Carlos and Jennifer Onofre, the center taps into the owners' combined 35 years of cheerleading experience to instill students with the agility and athletic prowess needed for the demanding sport. Classes range from beginning tumbling, which focuses on the basics?such as round-offs, back walkovers, and front handsprings?to flight school, which zeroes in on flexibility and growing the wings that all championship cheerleaders possess.
