For more than a decade, The Hitting Zone has helped baseball and softball players hone their slugging skills with top-notch batting cages. Its newly renovated facility includes seven new batting cages, new token machines, professional-quality turf, and enhanced lighting. While three cages devour tokens and spit out speedy pitches, schedule-savvy batters claim one of four regular cages for a designated hour of ball-pummeling against a Cy Young android lookalike.
On the scenic Smith Mountain Lake, run-about motorboats and WaveRunners create arcing, white-capped wakes atop the water. Nearby, slower-moving pontoons host anglers and picnickers. The volunteer coaches at Greensboro United Soccer Association teach children and adults of all ages and skill levels how to sharpen their soccer skills during various programs. GUSA’s primary goal is to enrich the community, whether it's creating camps to prepare teenagers for their high-school soccer season, or outreach programs that bring pickup soccer games to nearly 150 children in area schools.
Greensboro Tennis Program spreads the gospel of competitive racket flailing by maintaining the courts and stewarding lessons, clinics, and tournament play over seven Greensboro tennis sites. Its staff of tennis masters presides over a thriving junior development program with more than 70 young baseliners that have a North Carolina State ranking, which can be attributed to instructors' success in teaching proper stroke technique, footwork, and changeover intimidation tactics. The Program also hosts clinics for adults and United States Tennis Association tournaments for players of all ages and abilities throughout the year.
Claytor Lake Water Sports' fleet of rental boats and water equipment lets customers float, relax, and play amid the local wildlife and camera-ready sights of Claytor Lake. Canoes, kayaks, and motorized vessels such as pontoon boats snake along the lake's 21 miles of narrow and winding waterways, where spotted bass swim and test scuba gear beneath the surface. Flanked by lush trees, speedboats race across the water and lure adventurous riders perched atop water skis and other towables.
In addition to renting boats and gear, the staff at Claytor Lake Water Sports takes sightseers on scenic lake tours. They also maintain a commitment to the environment, equipping most of their watercrafts with electronic fuel injections and four-stroke engines that produce lower emissions and brighter rainbows.
At Adventure World Skate & Fun Center, kids and adults alike entertain both muscle and mind-matter in through a variety of heart-pounding activities. In the laser tag arena, players strap on receivers, holster a laser-emitting gun, and re-enact the galactic phase of the Crimean War on a phosphorescent battlefield. Competitors have the option of playing the four 10-minute games consecutively or spacing them out to fuel grudge matches or plan for potential roommate border disputes. With an additional admission fee ($3–$6), zapped compatriots can take backward victory laps around the skate rink ($3 skate rental) or purchase tokens to conquer the arcade room.
