Pricila Hidalgo-Liranzo began training for her career as a Zumba instructor virtually as soon as she could walk. She spent her whole life moving to the rhythms of Latin music, and found her passion in Zumba’s mix of international beats and cardio exercise. She helps students discover the same joy at Feel Good, Look Great. Pricila teaches one-hour classes either in classic total-cardio Zumba or Zumba Toning, the latter of which helps students tone muscle without having to do wind sprints in a soaking-wet gorilla costume.

New York Sports Clubs, part of Towns Sports International's network of fitness loci, welcomes exercisers to a number of equipment-stocked facilities to help attain perspiration-soaked fitness goals at a convenient location. Strength-training gear such as circuit machines, free weights, and medicine balls filled with black holes mold muscles into chiseled depictions of physical might. Calories simmer and move to cooler climates after sessions on cardio machines ranging from treadmills and ellipticals to upright and recumbent stationary bicycles. Each club offers a schedule of group classes that draw from more than 100 fitness styles, including Pilates, yoga, and boxing, to keep members from jazzercising without a spotter. Each location thanks exercisers for sweating in its vicinity with special features, such as babysitting, though Passport memberships do not include pool access.
For nearly two decades, USA Karate & Fitness Official Training Center’s experienced martial artists have taught students the foundations of karate and self-defense and encouraged them to approach life with positivity. As eager students observe, the certified instructors at each of USA Karate & Fitness Official Training Center's five locations lead them through age-appropriate karate classes, helping them overcome fear and obstacles through basic karate stances and maneuvers. Strength and poise surge within pupils during mixed martial-arts training, helping practitioners harness leverage to administer self-defense blows. Likewise, cardio kickboxing workouts burn calories and impart defense techniques through punching, kicking, and nail-sharpening exercises. Between training sessions, the trainers incorporate karate lessons and Nerf wars into in-studio birthday parties that invite kids and their friends to celebrate a special day under their guidance.
Bally enshrines exercise classes, calorie-burning equipment, and a fitness-focused staff within its sanctuaries of health. A 30-day membership includes access to a spread of group exercise classes, including Pilates, Reaction Cycling, and Step Fitness (class offerings vary by location). Bally also boasts an array of strength machines, free weights, and small-apparatus equipment, and grants gym-goers access to on-site locker rooms, showers, and, at some locations, a pool and steam room. Visit each location's webpage for a list of specific amenities and the lineup of classes.
Photos of Heads & Tails Yoga chronicle the renovations that made it possible—from its start as an empty space to its development into a bright, spacious studio with a pleasantly minimalist scheme. Students strike poses and fold their mats into giant origami cranes on the light hardwood floor, following an instructor who leads them through classes that include yoga flow and Yoga 101. The studio focuses not only on yoga’s fitness benefits but also on connecting students’ minds, bodies, and souls through mental and physical exercises including breath work and meditation. Participants with all levels of experience are invited to “Show up! Sweat! And smile!”
