The story of The Indus3 begins, as many good stories do, with a quest. In 2009, an overworked Elder Marmeleira himself from a regular nine-to-five job in search of a new means of helping other similarly stressed individuals look and feel good. Soon Elder realized that his budding hairstyling skills were his ticket to a new kind of life.
After countless hours spent honing his craft and fine-tuning his now-signature techniques, he opened The Indus3 salon. Now, with the help of stylist Jenny Viana, Elder continues to uphold his vision of lifting each client’s spirits by transforming their appearance through a host of personalized salon services tailored to individual tastes and styles. On any given day, the team can be found at styling stations, gilding locks with flattering highlights, installing volume-boosting extensions, or straightening curl-laden manes with meticulous flat-iron services. Along with strand-enhancing treatments, The Indus3’s crew also offers makeup applications and performs facial waxing services to streamline upper-lip fuzz that spells the name “Charlotte.”
Hairdressing runs in his blood. As a third-generation stylist, Jeff—the owner and director of Gemmette Hair Studios—not only loved hair from a young age but acted on his passion and began working in the industry at the age of 15. He then went on to attend the Vidal Sassoon school in London before garnering enough skills to become a color specialist and educator for Paul Mitchell. Now Jeff shares his endless love for hair not only with his clients but with his team of stylists at both Gemmette Hair Studio locations. Under Jeff's tutelage, each stylist much complete the salon's training program before working their way through the ranks of junior, senior, and designer stylist. And, even after all that training, the group still shows offs their hunger to learn by mastering the latest hair trends and techniques through continuing-education courses.
Along with precision cuts for adults and kids, Japanese hair-straightening treatments, and corrective coloring, Gemmette's crew is skilled in eyelash extensions and makeup applications. Hair can also be restored with the salon's reviving blow-dry treatments, which help brighten locks, protect against breakage with argan- and olive-oil-infused products, and boost volume.
Though the focus in each Gemmette Hair Studio is the client, the owner did not skimp on decor. Both locations offer elegance—one with baroque decor and the other inspired by zen—as well as fully stocked color bars boasting every shade of the rainbow, including pot of gold.
Master stylist, educator, and platform artist Nina Grossman traveled the country before settling in Texas. Over the course of 16 years, she honed her skills from Alaska to New York, landing in Austin in 2007 to open Luxe A Boutique Salon. Throughout her career, Grossman has mentored up-and-coming beauty pros on the art of hair design as well as the importance of listening to clients' needs and reinterpretations of show-tune classics. She's gathered a team of master stylists and color specialists, makeup artists, and aestheticians to perform services that range from haircuts and highlights to peels and threading.
Her salon's exposed-brick walls and leather chairs lend it sophistication, and damask-like patterns juxtaposed with animal prints nod to both vintage and contemporary sensibilities. In a private, chocolate-toned skincare room, associates perform fragrant facials with Éminence Organic Skin Care products, soothing complexions in the way the floral artwork soothes the mind. Afterward, women can shop for apparel and accessories in the boutique area or head to the outdoor patio to relax before reemerging into the world.
At Artistry Skin, it's not uncommon for clients to arrive with one face and leave with an entirely new one. That's thanks in large part to the efforts of the spa's expert aestheticians, who revamp looks with services ranging from exfoliating microdermabrasion and chemical peels to microcurrent treatments and oxygen infusions. Aided by pro-grade products from Yonka, Eminence, and Dermalogica, the team tackles common signs of aging, easing evidence of laugh lines, crow's feet, and years of sun exposure. They also remove unwanted body hair with hot or cold wax, and turn eyes into precision expression-makers with brow shaping and lash tinting services.
A front desk topped with pillar candles welcomes guests to Hair Essentials Salon, immediately ensconcing them amid its modern furniture bathed in warm, golden tones. Inside the studio, a staff of more than 25 stylists and aestheticians caters to beauty needs with a variety of services, from men’s and women’s cuts and color treatments to manicures and waxing sessions for removing unwanted hair from old gumballs.
Updos, downdos, and perms: the licensed stylists at A Cut Above sculpt all these looks. Employing products from top-selling brands, they also dye hair and add highlights. They also schedule services for wedding parties, and makeover mannequins that fill seats at opening nights of plays that haven’t sold out.
