After Randy Woody lost his aunt and grandmother to diabetes and obesity, he became increasingly distressed about his own 320-pound frame. He began researching weight loss and strength training and set to work creating a healthier lifestyle for himself—all at the age of 13. Over the years he was able to whittle away 145 pounds, and eventually became a personal trainer, competitive bodybuilder, and member of the American College of Sports Medicine. He teamed up with Brenda Woody, a fitness trainer and motivational speaker, to start Michigan Women Boot Camp, a weight-loss program that has transformed the lives and bodies of more than 10,000 clients.
Six days a week, the indoor boot-camp sessions challenge students with a rotating lineup of light running, resistance training, obstacle courses, and core exercises. Like scaffolding that reads only transcendentalist literature, the environment is supportive, yet serious. The Woodys only expect campers to perform to their individual ability level, but they ask students to show up as often as five times a week to get real results. The approach must be working; the Woodys boast that approximately 85% of their members are repeat visitors.
A 10-year veteran of the limo business, A Dream Limousine and Sedan has had the time to get efficient and safe transportation down to a science. Customers start the ball rolling by selecting a vehicle that fits their party's needs from the company fleet, which ranges from a four-passenger sedan to a 34-person party bus. A state-certified driver then scoops up clients at the appointed place and time, and sees them through the traffic, construction zones, and migrating bus herds that lay en route to the destination. The company's diverse fleet accommodates services as simple as a trip to the airport or as momentous as transportation to weddings or proms.
Byblos Cafe and Grill pays homage to its namesake ? the city of Byblos, Lebanon ? with Lebanese dishes served beneath arched doorways that recall Lebanese architecture. Ornate chandeliers, blush-hued pillars, and walls painted with faux stone surround guests as they dine on the same Mediterranean fare at both of the eatery?s two locations. Skewers hold marinated chicken and lamb while the grill leaves its imprint. Falafel is served with a side of hummus, either wrapped in a pita or stuffed, like a love letter from a short-order cook, inside a burger bun. Classic Lebanese dishes, from meat shawarma to grape leaves, also arrive in the form of a toasted wrap.
