His name is Thierry Rautureau, but you can call him The Chef in the Hat. The James Beard Award–winning chef and restaurant owner was raised on a farm in France, where he helped his mother prepare meals for the family. This experience certainly rubbed off on him, as he has made a career out of using fresh, seasonal, and homegrown ingredients in his classically French preparations.
Rautureau’s mother may have given him most of his culinary knowledge, but his father also gave him something important: the name for his café. A neighborhood spot tucked away in the heart of Madison Valley, Luc is Rautureau’s homage to his French upbringing. Still, there’s no ignoring a hint of American flair in the menu, which includes dishes ranging from burgers topped with caramelized onions to beef bourguignon. The same goes for the drink list, which includes a seasonal cocktail that changes daily and even hourly, if you’re counting temperature.
