Wayne and Sarah Wheller first got the inspiration for Redmond Ridge Winery from a tasting room across the Canadian border, where they repeatedly inspired themselves with glasses of Chardonnay. In the ensuing years, Wayne would look to his South African heritage for insight into crafting vintages, combining them with the flavors and resources of the Northwest. The resultant creations are now poured into glasses or over the heads of true oenophiles in the winery's downtown tasting room, where reclaimed casks act as tables and rows of obsidian bottles line the shelves.

After traveling from the end of the rainbow to the tip of the North Pole, Easter's original hippity-hoppity star is now claiming seasonal residence at the Tyson Corner Center, Arundel Mills Mall, Potomac Mills Mall, Lakeforest Mall and Marley Station. As both an adorable and educational animal, the bunny associated with Easter will be helping kids get into the spirit of egg-hunting by teaming up with professional photographers who know how to coax giggle-laden smiles out of any bundle of joy. Children can pose with the gregarious giant, embracing fluff-filled hugs, and then later enjoy their shared moments by flipping through their tangible, printed portraits and by fluttering their eyelids at their vibrant, digitally arrested stills.

A lion's head stands guard over the brick oven at Pizzeria Guido & Wine Bar, bearing its fearsome jaws at any who would try to pilfer the restaurant's family recipes. Thankfully, the only way most diners attempt to gain insight into the establishment's Tuscan traditions is through the food. Slivers of buffalo mozzarella, basil, and fresh tomatoes accent antipasti plates in the colors of the Italian flag, and the wood-fired oven spills forth the aromas of prosciutto, capers, and fontina cheese topping pizzas and filling calzones. Glasses of Italian wine click together in the halos of steam rising from pastas. Waiters move through the spacious dining room, and their white dress shirts and smart red ties complement the wall's gentle orange and yellow tones, which call to mind the warming glow of a sunset or a haunted ventriloquist dummy finally burning.

Sassafras, sarsaparilla, and vanilla: above all, these are the flavors celebrated by The Root Beer Store, which is chock-full of root beers from around the country. Owner Corey Anderson grew up making root beer with his dad, generating his admiration for root-beer culture. Anderson was featured on King 5 for his passion for the soft drink, which manifests in his selection of more than 100 types from craft root-beer makers. From Hawaii to Maine to Australia, the creativity of each brewer shines in the collection, which customers browse with visions of ice cubes and ice cream to accompany them. The staff is on hand to help home brewers make their own soda with root-beer kits, extracts from different brewers, and the lyrics to the chant sung to the root-beer lord before starting each batch.
