Sometimes the little things make all the difference. Do you bake any supplementary services into your main services?
All massages have complimentary aromatherapy added, if desired, customized to [the client]. All massages are 60 minutes of actual bodywork (assuming client is about 5–10 minutes early), [and] have a neck and scalp massage included. Organic oils or crèmes are used. [The] use of an eye pillow for all clients (either a scented or unscented) during the supine massage position is offered to soothe the eyes.
What are some of your most popular services? What do you think clients love them so much?
Deep tissue, because it is focused on an area of the body where the client is experiencing tight muscles or pain. Hot-stone massage, because it brings the client to a more grounded and deeper level while relaxing them holistically. Pregnancy and postnatal massage, as it's vital to the mother's wellbeing both during and after pregnancy.
How did you get started in the beauty industry? Did you have an "ah-ha" moment in life?
I used to massage my mother as a little girl because I enjoyed it. She used to say that I should go into massage therapy when I grow up because I just seemed to 'know' where to focus my massage application. Ten years ago, I had that ah-ha moment when I gave her a massage again, realizing that my path was always right in front of me.
Is there anything else you want to add that we didn't cover?
Massage at Renton Massage Studio is all based on intentional touch. I massage the areas that show me, with palpation, where there is a stopped flow, or a knot; then I work on that area to release it. I always set an intention with each new client before each treatment, so that I am, in a sense, connected to a higher source, which assists me in giving every person, the most custom and beneficial massage.
Philip Faler is a naturopathic doctor because he likes people. He enjoys spending time with his patients, and he enjoys helping them feel their best with holistic approaches to health care. His approach has always been one of integrative or "whole-person" medicine. After spending six years as a family clinician, he shifted his focus to anti-aging therapies. Today, at Wholey Healing, Dr. Faler and his staff use hormone-replacement therapy, naturopathy, and bodywork techniques such as reiki to restore the spring back into patients' steps.
Gloria Ross' life changed in 1984. She had dabbled in herbs and fasting regimens as means of detoxifying her body, but it was 28 years ago that she experienced her first colonic. This fateful cleansing treatment led to her to a career in colon hydrotherapy. She opened Eterna Holistic Therapies and now shares this drug-free practice with others, alongside a staff of fellow I-ACT-certified practitioners.
When Elle · A Clinical Day Spa first opened in 1997, its therapists specialized exclusively in massage. But soon, they saw that what the average guest needed most was not a standalone massage appointment, but an immersive, multifaceted experience that could undo the stress that bombards them on a daily basis. Owners Leigh Shaw and Polly Tabares, who have experience in the spa industry and the fields of dermatology and plastic surgery, rethought their approach and expanded their services into both traditional spa therapies and med-spa treatments.
Today, Leigh and Polly oversee everything from body wraps and facials to Botox injections and prescription skincare. They also maintain a stash of products for at-home care, stocking lines such as Dermalogica and bareMinerals by Bare Escentuals. For frequent guests, they coordinate VIP memberships that offer perks such as service discounts and massages that harness the rejuvenating power of phoenix tears.
The massage therapists at Ohm Massage and Bodywork customize their treatments to meet each client's needs, using a wide range of massage modalities. Along with treating general stress and tension, the massages can also help clients find relief from sports injuries, carpal tunnel syndrome, chronic pain, and much more. The therapists are also trained in manual lymph drainage to help treat fatigue, bloating, and other flu-like symptoms.
Bellevue Center for Health’s massive staff of chiropractic doctors, licensed acupuncturists, and male and female licensed massage practitioners offers an equally sprawling list of services. A waiting room equipped with leather couches and chairs greets guests before treatments such as acupuncture or naturopathy. The professionals search for natural cures to ailments such as fatigue and stress, and chiropractic care and massage therapy can iron out cramped muscles and aching backs, which are commonly caused by craning one’s head to see the massage therapist. Other services include allergy testing and orthotics.
