The Spa’s decor evokes the French countryside, surrounding a savvy staff as they assist patrons in reaching personal cosmetic goals. In private treatment rooms throughout the 4,000-square-foot sanctuary, music rolls from speakers, calming guests and scaring away feral jazz quartets with the sounds of full symphonies. Patrons revel in stress-banishing massage therapies, see fuzzy patches evicted with laser hair-removal treatments, or undergo nourishing facial treatments at the hands of the aestheticians.
Before she was a licensed acupuncturist and herbalist, Renea Barrett was an intern at a hospital and university in Guangzhou, China. Unlike those of its stateside counterparts, the hospital’s medical room contained more than 200 pots of boiling herbs, each tagged with the patient for which the remedy was being brewed. The university’s pharmacy contained both Western medicines and traditional Chinese formulas, but demand for the latter was perpetually high. When Renea returned to the United States, she brought her newfound understanding of the power of traditional Chinese medicine, which now serves as the cornerstone of Soft Touch Acupuncture.
She combines those traditions with Western techniques in her studio, where patrons sit in clusters of heated recliners. In private rooms, she seeks to bolster the body’s energy with acupressure, and acupuncture targets a wide range of maladies with slim needles that are used once and disposed of, much like a billionaire’s theme park.
At South Beach Tanning Fantasy, knowledgeable staffers point guests in the direction of 17 beds, including Ergoline and Matrix models that build tans in 12–15 minutes and a UV-free Mystic Tan spray-tan booth. They also customize airbrush tans and harness the power of infrared energy with calorie-burning Formostar body wraps or acne- and sun-damage-fighting red-light therapy.
After their pampering session, patrons can browse the store's selection of clothing and accessories, including designer-inspired handbags. The salon evokes the energy and spirit of Miami's renowned South Beach area with tropical plants, vibrant red and turquoise walls, and a huge selection of low-carb tanning lotions.
Licensed and nationally accredited by the National Accrediting Commission of Career Arts and Sciences, the schools of Missouri College and Cosmetology welcome students to learn the crafts of cosmetology and esthetics. In turn, students then welcome customers for walk-in salon services and by-appointment spa services. They beautify hair with cuts, perms, and color treatments, wax off unwanted body hair, and anoint fingers and toes with polish.
Within the cherry confines of bright pink floors and walls blanketed in purple, green, and blue hues, trained aestheticians enhance visages and bodies with full body peels and microderms, massages, waxing, spray tans, and facials. Patients recline on treatment tables while trained personnel send dead skin scattering with microderm treatments and brighten smiles via teeth whitening. Inside the infrared sauna, radiant heat works double-time to both burn calories and evict toxins.
