Certified personal trainer Cleveland Hughes Jr. leads up to 30 clients at a time in high-energy workouts on weekday mornings. Every 55-minute workout is different, but classes are composed of aerobics, strength training, kickboxing, gymnastics, and games. Nutritional guidance is also offered.
Founders Kara Collier and Jasmine Buczek wanted to create a place where anyone could dedicate themselves to health and fitness. To do that, they drew up a recipe that included certified trainers able to work with people of all fitness levels, ages, and experience; an inviting space equipped with all high-end weight and cardio training equipment; and a dash of stylish locker rooms with showers. Next, they mixed in some Classes including spinning, yoga, and Aeroba-cize, which uses dance moves to build overall strength.
In 2005 they they threw the whole thing in the oven and baked up All In One Fitness. There, they make overall health the focus. Every new member gets a comprehensive fitness assessment and accurate BMI measurements. Once clients get into their regimen, trainers start regularly tracking changes with the Integrated functional Coaching System to keep goals in sight. All In One Fitness also offers weight loss programs and personal training complete with packages tailored to each client's requirement. The fitness gurus work one-on-one or with small groups to hone in on weight loss, prepare them for running a marathon, or just start off on the path to living a healthier lifestyle.
Ivyleague Fitness challenges members to shape their bodies and themselves through up-tempo workouts that amp up endorphins. Instructors create an environment where students benefit from the positive social component of the boot-camp classes and ultimately achieve more in a group than they could individually. Along with traditional boot camps, Ivyleague Fitness proffers sessions in TRX Suspension Training and Tender Touch boot camps that gently ease students back into the fitness fold after injuries.
AnthroFit was born out of owner Tristen Davis’s love of anthropology and fitness. Tristen, who holds an MA in anthropology and certifications from CrossFit and the NCEP, designed a program that blends traditional fitness methods such as CrossFit and the paleo lifestyle with her own academic anthropology studies. The result is a fitness regimen that crosses various platforms, including CrossFit exercises, TRX Suspension Training, trail running, and weightlifting. Tristen is living proof of the results, as someone who used to suffer from chronic fatigue and has now completed more than 20 half marathons and three marathons.
Kevin Allen earned his personal training certification in 1989, but he didn’t stop there. Instead, he layered more expertise and experience onto his resume with every passing year, finally founding Namaste Personal Training to share his wealth of fitness knowledge with as many clients as possible. Now the gym has been named Oakland magazine's best gym in the East Bay in 2012 and 2013, a title Allen and his team of four trainers uphold by addressing patrons’ individual fitness goals in one-on-one personal training sessions, or obliterating bucket loads of calories in group fitness classes. They also tailor introductory fitness courses exclusively to beginners, lowering class size, shortening duration, and eliminating exercises that involve flaming jump ropes.
Today they’re playfully dubbed “The Boot Camp Guys,” but Jaron Eliopoulos and Jeffrey Sears were merely students of kinesiology when they met in 2005. After bonding over a shared passion for fitness, the two began to move toward their current nickname by leading boot camp on the side of personal-training jobs. But when their camp spread to two cities and more than 100 patrons, the amount it takes to overthrow a tyrannical couch potato, Jaron and Jeff could ignore their calling no more and LiveFit Boot Camp was born.
Accountability is the glue that holds campers together at the sessions, which are held at parks all over the region. Jeff and Jaron dream up a new workout each day and turn it over to trainers who not only encourage the clients that attend, but also check in with no-shows to make sure they’re staying on track. Through combinations of sprinting, suspension training, kettlebell moves, and other exercises, the routines keep muscles guessing and attendees engaged.
