Tell us about your business.
Jackie Rays Studio is a trendy hair and nail studio. The space is set up differently than your traditional salon. In the private studio, you don't have to hear the hustle and bustle of your neighbors and you will receive my undivided attention during your service.
What is one of your signature services? How is it performed?
My signature service would be the OPI gel color manicures. They are two-week, chip-free, and high-shine manicures. The service starts off with a manicure, including cuticle care and nail shaping. Then we begin applying the gel color, which goes on just like a standard polish. Once the gel color is applied, it cures under a light for 30 seconds. After curing the polish, the nails are completely dry to the touch. No worrying about messing up your nails while digging for your keys to leave! The service is finished off with a hand massage.
When and how did you first develop a passion for your work?
As soon as I was old enough to start experimenting with my own hair and nails, I knew this industry would be the perfect fit for me. I love making others feel great about themselves! I love getting to know people. I love that this industry is always changing—there is always something to learn and more knowledge to gain.
What is the best reaction you’ve ever gotten from a client?
I have had nothing but great reactions to the OPI gel color. My clients are so impressed by the high shine and durability of the product. They are also amazed at the great condition their nails stay in once the product is removed.

For more than 14 years, Studio Selfish's managing manicurist Katrina has followed her passion for beauty. She spruces up fingers and toes through a variety of manicure services using OPI polishes and no-chip gel coats with glitter. She also prettifies faces with eyelash application, makeup, or waxing services.
Stephanie Saddler is the owner and chief nail technician of the coral- and pink-colored Butta Fingers Nail Studio, and she's been profiled by the likes of Fox 8, WKYC, and The Today Show for her talon talents. Nail magazines showcase her daring nail art, but Stephanie's customers can also opt for more demure mani-pedis. At her salon, technicians doll up vacant keratins with gels, polishes, and acrylics from the salon's own signature collection and popular brands such as OPI, Gelish, and CND. Sandal-ready piggies make their debut after a shaping, grooming, and exfoliation are performed as patrons perch atop plush whirlpool chairs between vibrant pops of pink. Staffers cater to adventuresome talons with Minx nails, sporting flashy designs that shrink into fingertip contours when heated or frightened by a sudden whiff of nail-polish remover.
Unlike some beauty professionals who divide their time between hair, skin, and nails, the technicians at Tammy’s focus solely on finger and toe tips to ensure hands and feet get the attention they deserve. Nails don new coats of color with traditional polish or Shellac, which provides better resilience when opening containers or scratching the backs of wooden friends. Feet plunge into a warm bath during pedicures, then enjoy relief from rough skin with scrubs and hydrating treatments, and hands can opt to take a plunge into a paraffin dip, emerging with skin that is softer and silkier.
Candles flicker inside the marble fireplace, sending droplets of light into the colonial revival–style home, built in the 1920s, that houses Quintana’s Barber & Dream Spa. Hardwood floors and tan leather seating compose a warm color palette, and WiFi—installed by the ghost of the original architect—keeps busy guests connected. After appointment reminders land in their email inboxes, clients step into the earth-toned sanctuary for services ranging from basic mani-pedis and beard trims to all-day spa excursions. Guests pluck from a menu of massages, facials, waxing, and haircare, and such treatments are combined in packages for individuals and couples.
Quintana's soothing sanctuary doesn't just speak for itself. Patrons banded together to vote the salon into CityVoter's top five for Best Barber in 2009 and Best Manicure and Pedicure in 2009 and 2010. The spa's acclaim page also spotlights press recognition of Friendliest Staff, Best-Looking Storefront, and Most Helpful Combs.
Licensed nail professional Aisha L. McCaleb and the team at A-Spot Nail Studio give fingers and toes an elegant transformation with custom mani-pedis. Patterned white furnishings provide a sleek counterbalance to the spa?s pink walls, creating an aura of pampering and indulgence that?s mirrored by nail treatments that include hot stones and exfoliating hand and foot scrubs. Nail technicians draw from a spectrum of OPI polish colors at the conclusion of mani-pedis, resulting in nails that look so groomed they can be dunked in a punch bowl without offending other partygoers.
