When Joan Barnes founded Gymboree Play & Music in 1976, she envisioned a facility where parents and children could play together in a safe and age-appropriate environment. In the following decades, Gymboree Play & Music spread to more than 30 countries across the globe, helping youngsters from infants to 5 years old develop cognitive, physical, and social skills. The company's instructors lead classes such as Play & Learn, its flagship course, in which parents and kids move through a seven-level program filled with storytelling, play activities, and debates on the merits of sandwich crust. Talented staffers also prep youngsters for school and foster development in areas such as music, art, and sports. Throughout all classes, they make use of custom play equipment designed by acclaimed playground designer and seesaw-tamer Jay Beck.

A municipal facility owned and operated by the City of Euclid, C.E. Orr Ice Arena gives skaters plenty of ice space for practicing triple toe loops and triple dekes. The high school regulation-size rink is home to youth and adult hockey leagues, just as the water that became the ice was once home to youth and adult fish. The general public, meanwhile, can get in on the action during open skate times held throughout the week.

For three days in June, the Ohio Celtic Fest transports Midwesterners to the Emerald Isle with authentic music, dance, and merriment. Intended for Irish-Americans and non-Irish alike, the festival cultivates a connection with the old country through multiple performance stages filled with Irish musicians from the U.S., Canada, and Europe. Merchants offer an array of Celtic-themed gifts, jewelry, and embroidered goods, and a children’s area offers entertainment for the little ones, which can include puppet and magic shows, and a petting zoo.
