Terri Stein founded her business after attempting to get in shape after the birth of her child. Frustrated by the impersonal daily grind of working out in a home gym, and the expenses of a personal trainer, Stein founded Edge Body Boot Camp with a focus on creating a positive environment that motivates its clients to break through their personal goals. Trainers help campers establish a healthy life-long routine of exercise, not just a short burst of activity, with pupils supporting each other through cardio, core, and flexibility exercises, as well as nutritional guidance.

Inside CrossFit Cornerstone, you won't find rows of weight machines and treadmills. Instead, you'll see sand bags, gymnastics rings, and other nontraditional gear. But the most vital piece of fitness equipment in a CrossFit workout is you. And the motivational trainers work to make fit-seekers of all ages and fitness levels successful during their high-intensity workouts, whether they're just starting out or highly experienced.
Their workouts are designed to increase patrons' functional fitness, meaning that they'll perform squats to help tackle flights of stairs or heave bags of sand to help heave bags of sand. And no two workouts are alike in an effort to keep participants engaged, while also working different groups of muscles. As the sweat-inducing routines progress, fellow classmates cheer one another on, building camaraderie that also serves to instill a sense of accountability, which keeps everyone coming back for more.
Lex Fitness owner and exercise physiologist Jeff Brown does more than merely lead a class or workout session. With over 12 years of experience under his belt, he and a trio of trainers motivate clients who want transform their lives outside the gym, adopting healthier lifestyles with next-level exercise regimens and good-nutrition. During the complimentary initial consultation with a trainer, clients divulge their fitness goals, from losing weight to defeating a cheetah in a foot race. The trainers then evaluate the client’s medical history and scope out physical terrains with body-fat testing, measurements, and cardio and strength tests. Clients then tackle a fitness plan tailored to their specific needs, building muscles with free weights and strength-training equipment, carving lean physiques in boot-camp classes, and torching calories on cardio machines backed by flat-screen TVs.
All classes take place at a new exercise studio, open seven days a week. With over 20 classes taking place a week at all times of the day, each session involves high-intensity cardio and strength workouts from college-educated trainers. Exercises include lunging, jumping, sprinting, and push-ups.
Getting motivated to go to the gym isn't always easy, so the folks at Proof Fitness wanted to make their gym a welcoming place that clients want to go to. One of the largest group fitness offerings in Lexington, the 20,000-square-foot facility houses more than 100 pieces of carido equipment, a large selection of free weights, and the latest circuit and strength training equipment. Additionally, there are four fitness studios, a TRX area, and an outdoor training area.
Seven days a week, their staff is on-site to work with clients on equipment if they want or for one-on-one personal training, small group training, and in their Youth Speed, Agility, Core and Vertical program. Group classes are both fun and functional. Sessions include kickboxing, ballet-influenced Barre, and stationary cycling, providing a host of options for members looking to put on muscle or shed a few pounds.
Leigh-Ann Mims, the owner of Elle Fitness, brings her knowledge of BarreAmped directly from her studies with Suzanne Bowen, the creator of the BarreAmped method. During classes, she and her students stand at a ballet barre as they perform challenging poses and small, isolated movements, which are inspired by modern dance, yoga, Pilates, and deep stretching. These movements are designed to strengthen the entire body, and lengthen muscles to work toward dancer-like lean gams and arms. The method sometimes takes students away from the barre to the floor to perform ground work and stretching, or outside where they can photosynthesize sun into muscle fiber, like a body-building fern. In addition to the traditional BarreAmped classes, Leigh-Ann also leads the more advanced BarreAmped Fire and the six-week BarreAmped Boot Camp series.
