Brimming with colorful bolts of fabric, carefully looped skeins of yarn, and rows of sewing provisions, Save A Thon Stores have been supplying New Yorkers with quality crafting necessities since 1973. With fabrics ranging from basic denim to upscale jacquard upholstery cloth from around the world, the shop showcases a range of patterned designs that can be crafted into cozy quilts or a signal to a passing ship that it would have looked better in plaid. Coils of lace ribbons and tubs of colorful beads add a decorative finishing touch to projects, which can be undertaken at home or under the tutelage of the shop's expert crafters during regular sewing classes, while upholstery classes teach students upholstery basics. The teachers are also experts in the Wilton method of cake decorating and can help students artfully embellish cakes and cupcakes with fondant, tiny decorations, and tiny brides and grooms on a dessert destination wedding.

Celebrating its 71st year, the Ridgewood Symphony Orchestra features 15-year-old prodigy pianist George Li in French Flavor, the final installment of its internationally themed season. First-prize winner of the Young Concert Artists International Auditions and the 2010 Cooper International Competition, Li has performed in prestigious concert halls in New York City, Boston, and Washington, DC, and his performance at the Young Musicians Forum was noted as one of the top 10 classical music concerts of 2010 by the NY Daily Gazette. The evening begins as George Li’s agile fingers perform a solo dance number across black and white keys, soon joined by the sweeping strings and oboes of Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto no. 2 in C Minor, Op. 18. As Rachmaninoff’s sonorous tones fade, Bizet’s L'Arlésienne Suite no. 1 rounds up stray eardrums with its playful, lively rhythms and eloquent meditative passages. Finally, Ravel’s Bolero concludes the evening by catering to foot tappers who may be inspired to go home and practice Spanish dances or compose triple sestinas in trimeter.
