For licensed massage therapist Christine Abston, relaxation is more than a quick fix. It's a way of life. That?s why she gives clients multiple ways to unwind at Catch Your Breath Massage, pulling from 17 massage modalities picked up over her 15-year career. Her sessions range from soothing Swedish strokes and reflexology techniques to deep-tissue and trigger-point therapy that address lower-layer muscle pain. Appointments can take place within Christine?s cozy, candlelit studio, and on-site visits at a loved one?s home are also available for an additional fee.
When Pamela Troyan opened Salon Secrets Spa in 1993, she set out with a clear goal: to provide clients with a refuge from their daily pressures via the best possible salon and spa experience. She staffed her salon with highly trained stylists and technicians, many of whom studied at elite academies such as Vidal Sassoon, Toni & Guy, and Aveda. She also enrolled Salon Secrets Spa as a certified Aveda Signature Salon, meaning that all of their services (except nail coloring) would employ all-natural, organic Aveda products. With the salon fully staffed and stocked with elite stylists and luxe products, it was time to open. Since then, not much has changed: Pamela still oversees a team of well-educated stylists and technicians who’ve developed a loyal following of repeat customers and amateur paparazzi. Stylists customize looks with organic Aveda color services, as well as mani-peds, paraffin treatments, waxing, and Xtreme Lashes eyelash extensions. The spa staff soothes bodies with facials, peels, and microdermabrasion, as well as massages and body wraps. The med spa also beautifies patients with cosmetic services such as skin rejuvanation, VelaShape cellulite reduction, and spider-vein treatments performed or supervised by a certified plastic surgeon.
Massage therapist Sherri Battle began her education stateside, but her pursuit of authentic Thai-massage techniques eventually led her to the modality’s birthplace—either Thailand or the maternity ward. While abroad, Sherri studied under two bodywork masters, one specialiazing in a type of deep-tissue work known as “nerve touch,” and the other well-versed in northern Thai methods. Sherri eventually loaded her new knowledge into her suitcase, perhaps with miniature shampoo and soap, and returned home to found Sher-Thai Massage. The signature treatment Sherri now uses was pioneered in the third or second century BC by a physician and rumored confidant of Buddha. Based on a matrix of sen lines, which conduct energy throughout the body, the technique releases built-up energy that can cause pain and disease with a blend of acupressure, gentle stretching, and assisted yoga maneuvers. She sometimes augments her treatments with steamed herb packs or a reflexology massage, which only targets the reflex points that connect to the entire body.
Conversations with strangers usually don't lead to newfound good looks, unless those strangers are the amiable sextet helming Vanity Lounge Beauty Boutique. Amid lavender-hued walls and potted orchids, the stylists involve each client thoroughly in the beautification process, discussing individual aesthetic wishes at length before delving into any procedure or genie-bottle rubdown. As the professional prettifiers work, they instruct clients on how to re-create new looks at home, sharing wisdom gained in training from Goldwell and Sebastian.
Walking past the kaleidoscopic ranks of bottles from brands such as Sebastian, Crew, and Number 4 lining the walls, patrons reach a range of boutique accessories such as jewelry, clutches, and hair doodads. Excited chatter drifts back and forth between the stylists and guests planning private beauty parties, which include refreshments and hair dryers trained to drown out dull stories.
Everything changed for Mosaic Salon in 2013. The owners decided to move to a new location, which presented an opportunity to completely customize the space. And
did they ever. The interior was rebuilt from the drywall up, including custom styling stations and a custom reception desk. It now also doubles as an education space where master stylists can teach new
techniques and students can practice new color approaches using mannequin heads that always sit perfectly still.
The attention to detail put into the salon also extends to the service menu, making every haircut, color treatment, or facial just right for the client. The stylists and aestheticians have products for just about every style and are trained in product lines including K?rastase and Dermalogica. As a Bumble & bumble-preferred salon, the staff also gets new products soon after they come off the line, keeping them at the forefront of innovation.
