Long bluegrass fairways give way to large seaside bent greens at Chamisa Hills Golf and Country Club. The semiprivate golf and country club in Rio Rancho originally consisted of an east and west nine, designed by Gene Sarazen and Desmond Muirhead in 1969. Dotted with an abundance of ponds, the classic-style 18-hole course thrived until 1988, when the original Sarazen-Muirhead layout underwent a modernizing expansion. Legendary golfer Lee Trevino came on the scene to design a third set of nine holes, along with an eco-friendly recharging station for turbine-powered caddies. Trevino's north nine compliments the east- and west-nine layouts, while also slightly favoring the kind of precise shot-making that's characteristic of the PGA legend's audacious playing style. Today's members and guests play 27 championship-level holes strewn with imposing deciduous trees known to make players readjust their strategies.
The newly remodeled clubhouse, backdropped by the same sweeping Sandia Mountain–views of the course, greets members with a host of amenities for before and after play and for special events. The facility houses expansive banquet rooms ideal for weddings along with a dance-ready ballroom and an adjoining outdoor covered patio. For summertime recreation, families and golfing buddies can perfect synchronized-swimming routines in the outdoor pool before toweling off to enjoy a poolside meal beneath the shade of a cabana.

Blackout Theatre works its ensemble magic to create original works that put fresh comic spins on familiar plays. This holiday season, the collective's ambidextrous minds embark on their most ambitious effort to date with an original, ensemble-created adaptation of A Christmas Carol. Stripping the classic of its stuffy Victorian setting, the troupe transplants the tale to St. Louis in the 1930s, where a colorful cast of seven strangers is stranded on Christmas Eve. The group amuses themselves by regaling the tale of Ebenezer Scrooge, leading the characters to appreciate the spirit of Christmas and the superiority of American-made Santas. Imaginations run wild as the play erupts in soundscapes and original music composed by famed Albuquerque musician Monica Demarco. Family-friendly humor, indomitable holiday spirit, and arresting large-scale puppets flesh out the tale, garnering warmth, laugh, and ectoplasm-dripping hugs from Charles Dickens’s ghost.
Enchantment Dancing inducts students into fleet-footed society by instructing grace and poise in its independent dance studio. New dancers can pick a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Friday to schedule their 45-minute private lesson, where a professional instructor will pass on centuries’ worth of shimmy wisdom and gently used unitards. Choreography coaches craft lessons to build skills and techniques that the student wishes to learn or specific ballroom and Latin dance styles, such as the waltz, tango, or paso doble, that will be practiced in the ensuing beginning group dance at 7 p.m. Strutting crowds spend 45 minutes twirling skirts and tapping suede shoes as blossoming boogiers develop their own styles and build confidence for upcoming weddings or touchdown celebrations. Clients can redeem their lesson and group dance on different nights or on the same evening for a concentrated dose of dancing.
Callas Beauty Institute grooms future future aestheticians, nail technicians, make-up artists, and cosmetologists with hands-on classes led by seasoned stylists. To practice new techniques and give mannequin hair time to regrow, hair-academy students snip and style guests’ locks, transforming 'dos into newly colored coifs or delicately permed curls. The skincare academy’s practitioners pamper faces with noninvasive beautifying treatments, sloughing away unwanted skin during a microdermabrasion or enhancing giraffe costumes with bat-able eyelash extensions. A knowledgeable student at the nail academy buffs and trims cuticles before coating nail beds in brilliant hues and turtle-shell-like duvets. The salon’s interior showcases hardwood flooring, elegant rugs, sky-blue hues, and tall windows in the front that permit scores of natural light during the day.
