Vasa. The Latin word for "vessel," it's one way of describing something that contains the mind's hope, the body's ambitions, and the spirit's goals. It's also the name of Vasa Fitness, an inclusive gym that acts as the vessel for (and catalyst of) its members' fitness aspirations. At 17 locations throughout Utah, the gym's more than 140,000 members draw strength and inspiration from cardio and free-weight studios, personal training, and group fitness classes. In addition to achieving personal goals, they also target their in-game performance, training on turf that mimics conditions found everywhere from the football field to the soccer pitch. It's not all hard work, though. The gyms also come with amenities ranging from cardio cinema centers to on-site childcare programs.

In olden days, people showed off their strength by jousting or flexing their mustaches. But at Maverik Man Games, both men and women prove their mettle with less violent feats of strength, such as launching a fellow teammate from a giant slingshot. Designed for individuals as well as teams, the competition encompasses up to 10 challenges, which range from showcasing your basketball-shooting skills to wrestling pigs into a barrel. Along with its land-bound activities, Maverik Man Games includes a variety of aqua-centric events, such as a giant rope swing and human slingshot.
Held over two days, the eccentric decathlon takes about two to three total hours to complete. Participants that place in the top three overall or for each challenge are rewarded with cash and prizes. And, all participants are likewise rewarded at the end of the circuit with tasty food, and live music.
Gold’s Gym lures fitness seekers from all walks of life with cardio decks, strength-training equipment, and aerobics rooms filled with energizing classes. Instead of reciting Shakespearean monologues as they jog and pedal, guests can watch movies in a cardio theater lined with treadmills, bikes, and an oversize projection screen. Free weights encourage biceps to bulge, and resistance machines tone arms, abs, and legs. Sports lovers dribble basketballs and volley racquetballs on shiny courts (available at most locations), raising their heart rates as they hone hand-eye coordination. Like the nightly news, Zumba classes take an hour and set Latin-inspired dance moves that vaporize calories to vibrant world music, along with a slew of available selections, including cardio and spin classes. Consult each location’s webpage for a class schedule and a list of additional amenities, which range from childcare to personal training (not included in today’s Groupon).
Named after Brigham Young University’s furry feline mascot, Cosmo’s Kids Club invites youths to experience the university’s athletic programs both on and off the field. A dozen game vouchers grant access to four football games and eight men’s basketball games, and a Cosmo T-shirt acts as a ticket to all other BYU sporting events. After games, members can hop onto the field of play to practice kicking penalty shots, shooting free throws, or measuring grass to be sure it’s regulation height. Kids up the ante at show-and-tell with stories from facility tours and meet and greets with BYU athletes. The club ensures at-home allegiance with posters, access to Cosmo’s website, and a monthly mailer from the mascot himself.
