A round of miniature golf on Ace’s tropical-themed course, complete with waterfalls, streams, ponds, and lush Floridian vegetation, fills afternoons with fairway fun for friends and family (children ages four to 10 are admitted for $4.99, and kids under four get free admission). PGA pros and sand-trap stragglers will enjoy the upscale practice range, with covered swinging areas to protect golfers from weather, as well as stadium lighting for nighttime play and elaborate Field of Dreams fantasies. For harder hitting, baseball batters and softball sluggers step into batting cages, where professional pitching machines can vary speeds from lightning-bolt throws to lackadaisical lobs.

Dr. Scott Arnold, trained in a bevy of mouth-bone specialties, including implants, lasers, and computerized dentistry, leads a team of skilled dental-health professionals into battle against smile-tarnishing foes. The comprehensive exam includes examination of tooth troubles (decay, tumors, cysts) as well as oral-cancer screening and a spot check of existing restorations. Bitewing x-rays further probe gums, teeth, and mouth, and a full cleaning removes the plaque that obscures teeth from shining as brightly as a sheet of burning tinfoil.

Pick a verb?crawl, climb, drag, lift, sprint?and chances are, you'll be executing it during a US Obstacle Racing event. Throughout the year, US Obstacle Racing bounces around the country organizing obstacle-laden races on beaches, in the mountains, across flatlands, and just about anywhere in nature that's accessible and not yet overrun by Sasquatches.

The organization hosts three styles of events, each more extreme than the last. Their Mud Race 5K series challenges competitors of all abilities with a grimy course peppered with more than 25 obstacles, such as climbing walls, barbed wire, hurdles, and rope walks. However, seasoned racers can truly test themselves with the OCR 100?a course riddled with 100 obstacles, designed specifically for experienced athletes?or the Elite Legend 24?a 24-hour gauntlet of obstacles and puzzles that rewards winners with a gigantic cash prize.

Q&A with Fred, Event Coordinator

When and how did you first develop a passion for your work?

Due to our long history in the Adventure Race industry. The executives of our company were hired to consult and develop obstacles for some of the first obstacle course race companies in the USA. We wanted to improve on the business model, increase the number of obstacles and up the level of challenge instead of decreasing the number like they are doing.

What is one fun, unusual fact about your business?

We have one hundred obstacles in this race, which makes it the largest obstacle course race in the world.

Is there anything else you want to add that we didn't cover?

This course has a $10,000.00 first place challenge.

Have you ever been a patron of your own business? If so, what was the most enjoyable part?

Yes, the obstacles are a real challenge.

Fitness isn?t something Michael and Beth Caldwell relegate to gym routines and exercise classes?it?s a lifestyle that permeates everything they do. Michael came to adopt this way of life after suffering from weight problems as a child, eventually conquering his issues after discovering exercise can be fun and fulfilling. He went on to devote his entire life to this pursuit of physical health, becoming a weight-loss consultant and chef to coach others toward slimmer figures. His wife, Beth, was an avid gym and sports enthusiast from the beginning, earning a personal-training certification the first chance she got. Even when she was pregnant, she maintained an active lifestyle and was down to a size 2 in a matter of months after giving birth to her second son. After discovering that the unique and varied CrossFit program was the well-rounded regimen they both sought, the duo became CrossFit Level 1 certified trainers and opened CrossFit BNI to share their passion for fitness with the community. BNI stands for Beyond Normal Intensity, and pairs well as a motto with the CrossFit philosophy of vigorous functional training. During the gym's Workout of the Day, participants hoist barbells, sprint through cardio drills, and practice gymnastics techniques, prepping their bodies to perform most any physical challenge thrown at them while outside of the gym or onstage in Peter Pan: Action Hero. Michael and Beth also host personal-training sessions and CrossFit kids' classes, creating a comfortable yet motivating environment for visitors of all ages.

In golf, it's important to choose the right club for each shot. It's equally important to choose the right educational approach for each student. Coach Marc intuitively understands this, which is why he helps golfers improve their swings with everything from one-on-one instruction to group clinics and on-course playing lessons.

Over the years, Marc has shared his wisdom with more than 1,000 students. Take a look at his playing résumé, and you'll see that he's uniquely qualified to do so. At age 16, when most kids are busy goofing off, he set a course record at the challenging Chi Chi Rodriguez Golf Course in Palm Harbor. He's also a two-time PGA Tour qualifier with three holes-in-one to his name. Today, Marc stays sharp by schooling new golfers at locations across Florida. To help him analyze what even his keen eye can't catch, he uses modern technology such as video analysis and balls that explode when you don't hit them correctly.
