The Adhi Schools' curriculum is recognized by leaders in the real-estate field, from large brokerages including Century 21 and Prudential to national training companies.
Living Life Medspa's medical director, Dr. John O. Dimowo, performs health and beauty procedures using advanced training in a wide variety of medical specialties. In addition to being board certified in both anesthesiology and pain medicine, Dr. Dimowo is a member of the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery. He is also an acupuncturist, a cardiovascular anesthesiologist, and was recently trained in the use of 3-D/4-D neonatal echocardiography.
Dr. Dimowo is one of the few qualified surgeons in the Inland Empire to use SmartLipo technology to help patients reach their body-contouring goals. To combat signs of aging, he employs infrared-light-based Titan treatments and cosmetic injectables. His team also specializes in massage therapy and aesthetic services such as facials, peels, and eyelash-enhancing treatments, which add volume without the need for mascara or tiny bicycle pumps.
The instructors at California Survival School impart decades of wilderness-survival know-how during outdoor, hands-on courses. Participants prepare themselves to live self sufficiently off the land using both modern and primitive techniques, which can come in handy when lost in the woods or the year 1412. During the Core Survival Skills Adventure Clinic, up to 30 students spend five hours learning to create fire using only sticks, build shelters with natural materials, purify water, and feed themselves off the land. The Ancient Artisans Workshop teaches novices how to fashion crude implements from scratch with materials found in nature, and how to use them while out in the wilderness. California Survival School also offers team-building workshops and private events.
The staff members at Sylvan Learning's numerous centers understand that each child learns differently. Therefore, they don’t try to implement a uniform tutoring system; instead, they design custom lesson programs based on the results of a skills assessment using diagnostic tools and one-on-one interviews.
Tutors work with students from pre-kindergarten through grade 12, illuminating topics ranging from basic reading and writing to remembering complex algebraic formulas without having them tattooed on your chest. Many of Sylvan’s instructors work in local schools, so they are intimately familiar with common curricula and understand how to gear lessons toward optimal results. Camps and after-school and summer classes can ready high-schoolers for the rigors of the ACT or the SAT, or they can help students to wow college-admissions officers with their superior essay-writing skills.
American Beauty College has been the training ground for tomorrow’s hairstylists, cosmetologists, and estheticians for more than 40 years. Over the years, the school has been training students in the classroom and during hands-on-hands sessions at the school’s on-site salon, where licensed instructors oversee and supervise services administered by developing students. In addition to offering mani-pedis and acrylic nails, the training estheticians and stylists also perform haircuts, styling sessions, color treatments, waxing, and makeup applications.
Aloha Mind Math Reading Writing helps kids aged 5–12 flex the sponginess of their brains by teaching them not only important concepts in math and reading and writing, but also inventive techniques for grappling with those important concepts. On the math side, the certified and well-trained tutors teach the abacus method to give first–fifth graders a strong foundation in mental math. The junior math program teaches 5- and 6-year-olds to understand numbers with multiple digits. Meanwhile, the senior math program graduates 12-year-olds with an ability to perform operations such as 914 x 325 in their heads, rather than by making a rectangle with a width of 914 action figures and a length of 325 action figures and then counting up all the action figures.
Alternatively, the reading and writing program helps children make sense of the world of letters. Ninety-minute lessons coupled with supplemental at-home work guide kids from understanding punctuation and parts of speech in first grade to learning about clauses and conjunctions in fifth grade, imparting a preparedness for middle-school language-arts classes. This part of the program also teaches them to read fiction and nonfiction, with such valuable concepts as inference, context, comparing and contrasting, and understanding that author’s view doesn’t have anything to do with J.K. Rowling’s penthouse vista. The reading and writing program also helps children cultivate their own writing skills, advancing them from simple descriptive sentences to persuasive, expository, and story writing at the fifth grade level.
