Bobby Alcott's love for the nautical life first took shape during college, when he paid his tuition with profits from fishing aboard a 44-foot boat he had reconstructed himself. A trip to St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands in 2003 further fueled his passion for sailing and entertaining, as he began leading charter trips. Now, 15 years after attaining his Coast Guard master's license, he seeks to instill passengers with nautical knowledge and show them a new perspective of Palm Beach through his business, Lacuna Tours.

Captain Bobby navigates his hurricane deck boat along smooth intra-coastal waters during tours and charters, adapting the course to his passengers’ chosen sites while politely vetoing their requests to exchange courtesies with the local narwhal. He expounds on nearby sites and local history with a sense of humor, which he developed during 10 years as a ski instructor. During the day or at sunset, Bobby steers the boat during private tours or themed trips such as birthday parties and wedding celebrations.

On extended tours, he runs the vessel onto the shore of one of Palm Beach's uninhabited islands and lets passengers disembark to relax on the beach and explore the nooks and crannies of abandoned sand castles. If children are onboard, he also brings ashore a small treasure chest filled with candy, balloons, and toy jewelry, and buries it in the sand when they aren't looking. Bobby then spins tales of pirate visits to the island, inviting the wee adventurers to search for the treasure. To further the swashbuckling theme, he also provides pirate costumes and props, giving parents ample photo opportunities.

The Jupiter Seafood Festival blends fish and fun in a three-day event. Vendors sell nautical wares as booths shell out helpings of local, fresh seafood, including crawfish, mussels, crab cakes, and scallops. Kids and adults who have memorized the entire Nickelodeon cartoon lineup can participate in child-friendly activities, and people of any age can boogie to the live music from bands such as Boxelder, the Blues Brothers Soul Band, and a Tom Petty and Billy Joel tribute band, who will play all weekend to keep the party going.

During the Superhero Scramble, racers of all fitness levels tear across arduous terrain littered with body- and mind-challenging obstacles. Participants must wade through mud and, to reach the finish line, persevere through a barrage of Super Slime generously donated by retired Ghostbusters.

Upon completing the race, athletes ride their endorphin high into a party stocked with ice-cold beer. There, they can mingle with other contestants, sway to live music, and see awards doled out to the fastest runners in each age bracket. Male and female Scramble Gamble contestants compete for prizes that can cover the cost of replacing the engines in their sneakers. The benefits of the race extend beyond the Gamble winners, too?the organizers donate a portion of the proceeds to charity.

Kat Loren established Rockstar Recording Studio Parties to give kids the experience of laying down tracks in a professional recording studio while having fun with friends. It's no coincidence that she has all these things assembled in one place; when not hosting kids' parties, the studio serves as an active recording space for professional artists. "Many celebrities have recorded with us," Kat says, adding that her favorite part of the job is just "being in the music business and watching potential rockstars emerge." That's why she enjoys throwing open the doors and inviting kids just to have fun. She supplies them with keyboards, drums, and electric guitars. After the session, the engineer edits, mixes, and burns personalized CDs for all the guests.

Monster: The Ultimate Obstacle Challenge's No. 1 goal is making fitness fun. Instead of just plodding toward the finish line on a concrete road, competitors tackle obstacles on the beach—climbing walls, crawling under nets, and sloshing through sandy beaches.

The race is intense and will test your inner mettle, but you don't have to be a Marine or Aqua Man to succeed. Racers of all ages and skill levels are welcome, and can opt for one of two course styles: the Monster Sprint, a quick frenzy with more than 15 obstacles back-to-back, the long 1- mile course has a combination of two courses being 2- to 3-miles long, dotted with more than 40 obstacles to test your endurance. There are two different sprint courses and two different long courses.

Extreme athletes banded together to design Spartan Races' intense courses orchestrated over standardized distances, each strewn with natural and man-made obstacles to test mind-body fitness, resilience, stamina, and strength, designed to leave participants exhausted and exhilarated. In waves of 200, runners collect smudges and stains as they perform box jumps, haul heavy sandbags, and juke feral linebackers. Depending on where in the world they're participating, the course may be as short as 3 miles or, for extremely practiced athletes, as long as a full marathon.
