Camp Gladiator founder Ally Davidson?s childhood obsession with the outdoors and sports led her to pursue a degree in exercise physiology. After her 2008 win on the TV show American Gladiators, Ally decided to share her love of fitness with the world at large. Camp Gladiator reflects Ally's passion for fitness in its mission, which espouses their desire "to positively impact the physical fitness and ultimately the lives of as many people as possible." During Camp Gladiator Total Transformation, participants lose weight and gain energy in a friendly, positive environment. Over four-weeks, trainers focus on accountability, competition, motivation, and fun at multiple locations. Results are tracked during fitness assessments, body composition tests, and a fitness calendar, while nutrition counseling helps to maximize those results. Click here to view before and after images.
Davidson also leads boot camps in 13 U.S. cities, with each hosting multiple training locales. Shannon "The Cannon" Hudson is an International Kickboxing Federation world champion, a fifth-degree black belt in japanese shotokan karate, and a survivor of more than 70 bouts in the ring—yet, one of his most influential titles is "father." With two kids clinging around his waist like a squirmy fanny pack, Shannon started brainstorming a way to channel his boxing and kickboxing training into a quick, effective workout that even those who are busy or out of shape could tackle. The result was 9Round, a 30-minute routine of aerobic, anaerobic, and resistance moves divided into a circuit of nine stations. The ever-changing series of workouts maximizes morale and results and minimizes boredom.
His trainers launch the workouts every three minutes, motivating exercisers through each station—which might include jumping rope or pummeling speed bags. Online nutritional counseling supplements the workouts, teaching patrons how to construct and eat healthful meals instead of falling back on old habits, such as snacking on cheese sculptures.
Frills equal distractions when it comes to working out. That's according to the certified trainers who own CrossFit Hardcore North, a member of the gym family named the sixth-best in America by The Active Times. That's why none of their classes involve fancy treadmills, designer rubber bands, or high heels. Instead, classes feature trainers such as Dr. Adam Locker leads students through group classes and personal-training sessions, and seasoned coaches who oversee each participant, monitoring progress as they deliver safety tips and words of encouragement.
Gymnastics-inspired bodyweight exercises such as handstands and muscle-ups build lean muscle mass, and plyometrics foster agility and stamina. Many sessions also incorporate running or rowing to raise heart rates and melt calories. In addition to sculpting lean muscle, kettlebell training cultivates flexibility with focused squats and swinging motions. Instructors also instill in their clients the CrossFit style with functional movements that aim to boost strength, power, and coordination.
Workouts take place in warehouses and other spartan spaces that embody a cultivated lack of the bells and whistles that often masquerade as fitness essentials. Here, basic tools such as kettlebells, jump ropes, and weighted sleds get the job done for a wide range of exercisers, from absolute beginners to advanced athletes.
Donna Tucci's School of Dance Inc. teaches students of all ages how to take their dancing skills to the next level. They start by practicing proper technique via ballet by learning how to point toes and gracefully flag down taxis. The studio prefers students build this foundation before they move on to other forms of physical expression in modern dance, hip-hop, and jazz classes. Meanwhile, Mommy and Me sessions help parents and kids bond over music and movement, and Pilates classes focus on burning fat and toning muscles. In addition to its commitment to building strong dancers, the studio aims to build confidence and self esteem for all students. Those with special needs can join the Dreams Come True Dancers to develop their skills at the pace that works best for them. At the end of the year, the students can perform in a show.
The workout doesn't stop after you leave Orangetheory Fitness Royal Palm Beach—at least, that's what your body thinks. Long after clients have showered and dressed, their metabolisms stay cranked up as if they were still hitting the gym's treadmills, rowing machines, and SBT suspension equipment. That's because the trainers use stop-start interval training that teaches the body to assume another round is right around the corner, so it stays in fat-burning mode. This approach can keep metabolisms raised for up to 38 hours after the workout ends, helping limit the plateau many exercisers experience with regular workouts and when reaching the top of Mount Trapezoid.
