Saco is a multipurpose facility that supports the healthy lifestyles of more than 2,600 members and hosts an impressive schedule of unique and dynamic group workout classes. With 65 classes offered each week, budding sweat hogs can dive into Saco's Centergy class, blending yoga and Pilates, or trade inspirational sweat-themed sonnets with compatriots in spinning, step, or weightlifting sessions. Nostalgic drill sergeants can sport their old uniforms and bedazzled riding crops to one of Saco's boot-camp classes, explore a more expressive side through the Latin dance moves associated with Zumba, or enjoy one of their Living Fit or SilverSneakers sessions for older active adults.
For the past six years, Kusum Institute Yoga has thrived in Saco as the calming space called Saco River Yoga. Now a second newly renovated wellness haven in Scarborough has opened its doors to both beginner and experienced yogis who seek calmness of body and mind. The space hosts weekly yoga classes, workshops, and community events, welcoming all shapes and skill levels to its studio. Skilled instructors provide individualized attention to clients who want to center themselves while basking in the tranquility of the space. Additionally, all of teachers practiced together as students?and still do?in these studios, which further deepens their connection to their students and their calming craft.
The 1/3-mile track at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway plays oblong host to up to 7,500 spectators and a multitude of weekly automobile events, including NASCAR Whelen All-American Series races. Four divisions of local drivers display their vehicular velocity around the semibanked asphalt oval, including the high-speed pro series and the Wildcat division, where drivers race 30 laps while locked in their cars with a mountain lion. After the checkered conclusion, fans are invited onto the track for the Happy Half-Hour to hobnob with the racers and feed handfuls of bolts to their trusty steeds as kids cavort with Speedy, the bright-red rabbit guardian of the track. The speedway grounds are open for camping during race weekends, though visitors must have a self-contained camper and leave their sites as pristine as they were found.
