Inside a spacious 6,000-square-foot facility, Christine Fox, a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers, and her staff provide training, daytime and overnight boarding, and grooming services for dogs of all shapes and sizes. Daycare and overnight-boarding services provide canines with ample indoor play areas and individual walks, during which a trainer reinforces basic commands, such as “come,” “heel," and “stop leaving the toilet seat up.” Multiple exercise sessions also teach socialization techniques, wearing pups out for tranquil rides home. The facility also houses separate areas for small and senior dogs to ensure places for them to play safely.
During group training sessions, canines learn basic etiquette, such as to come when called and how not to pull on the leash. Dogs can also go on to learn more advanced commands, graduating to agility training or acting classes to teach them how to obey commands in busy film studios. Individual training sessions offer one-on-one attention, either in the home or at the facility.
Barka Lounge eschews cages in favor of 7,000 square feet of open space where dogs can socialize, wear each other out, and nap under the watchful eyes of staff members. Before dogs are allowed in, staff members conduct evaluations with each hound to determine their temperament and opinions about world peace, and then sort nonaggressive dogs into separate play areas based on size and temperament. While they’re at daycare, dogs are given clear boundaries and rewarded for good behavior with pats and praise. Staff members use basic obedience commands throughout the day, but more in-depth training is available separately with a master certified trainer.

The stylists at The Color Room Salon have seen it all. Failed bleach jobs and uneven highlights are no match for these experts, who specialize in corrective color. They rely exclusively on naturally-derived Aveda products, whether they're cleaning up color mistakes, touching up roots, or camouflaging grays on men, women, or self-conscious koalas. Besides bathing strands in new hues, the team at The Color Room Salon adds rainbow bursts to fingers and toes with nail enhancements and durable shellac polish.
Though dogs tend to lovingly follow their owners' lead, that's not where the name Me & My Shadow came from. The owners had a dog named Shadow, an american eskimo that began suffering from health problems, including blindness, at an early age. When Shadow became too skittish to take walks around the neighborhood, his owners decided to put a pool in the backyard. Shadow was delighted to swim in it, and for years afterward, it seemed he was happiest during the summer swimming season.
This inspired Me & My Shadow, an indoor pool and recreation center where dogs can exercise and learn to socialize throughout the year. By-appointment swimming sessions are kept private to ensure dogs and owners—who can take a dip, too—feel comfortable. Pet parents can also sign their dogs up for training sessions, which are led by Judy Hales, an experienced trainer who takes a gentle, positive approach to instruction, as opposed to just rolling her eyes at dogs that can't complete their given task.
