B-Fit CrossFit South's trainers take in students who are bored with their workouts?or maybe haven't ever really worked out. They teach these students the functional movements of CrossFit, designed to help people tackle any daily challenge with speed and strength. Their particular skill, though, lies in keeping students engaged.
The coaches mine every form of motivation they can. They change up the routine daily, targeting different muscle groups with a range of exercises. In addition to providing a supportive, positive environment for students, they turn workouts into a bit of a competition. They maintain a leaderboard, posting the number of repetitions of each exercise that every student manages to complete. There's no prize for winning, other than pride, temporary bragging rights, and a full 24 hours of being able to scare any piece of gym equipment just by looking at it.
At each of its 12 locations in Kansas and 3 locations in Missouri, the staff of Genesis Health Clubs strive to create a one-stop health-and-fitness center for the entire family. Supervised childcare programs entertain kids with arts and crafts, and Muay Thai classes help youngsters improve coordination and strength under the tutelage of a fifth-degree black belt. Adults can head over to yoga, Pilates, cycling, or MMA cardio classes, which are all led by nationally certified instructors. Guests can also take advantage of the rows of cardio and strength-training machines, or work one-on-one with an instructor to learn correct form and the best way to walk on your hands on a moving treadmill.
A community presence in Kansas City since 1860, the Greater Kansas City YMCA forwards its mission of physical and social enrichment for men, women, and kids of all ages and backgrounds at its 18 locations.
