Saint Louis Outdoor Activity Guide
Saint Louis is known for their many outdoor activities, and there are plenty of opportunities to get out and enjoy nature. The City of St. Louis has more than 100 parks, including Forest Park, one of the largest urban parks in the country. The 1,300 acre park is host to many of the area's favorite events and pastimes. In the summer, there are free Saint Louis concerts, outdoor Shakespeare plays, and a huge hot air balloon race. Winter consists of sledding down Art Hill and ice skating. Another great park in STL is the Tower Grove Park, located on Magnolia Avenue. This park features a wading pool and carriage rides, plus it is also a national historic landmark. Many have had wedding ceremonies performed there as well.
In addition to spending the day in one of the Saint Louis parks, one of the other outdoor activities in STL is to hike or bike along the Katy Trail. Once a part of the Missouri-Kansas-Texas rail line, this trail runs approximately 225 miles across mid-Missouri. For a fun activity with the kids, visit Eckert’s Orchards, where the whole family can pick berries, apples, peaches or pumpkins.
Another great way to experience Saint Louis is by taking one or more of their many tours. Some of the options include exploring Saint Louis and its rich architectural history, traveling around the town tasting beer made by large and small breweries, satisfying those food cravings on the Saint Louis culinary tour, learning about STL’s rich chocolate past and present while tasting creations made by some of the local chocolatiers, and experiencing excellent local jazz and blues talents of today as well as learn about our abundant musical past. See the city in a different light by experiencing the many tours and other fun things to do in Saint Louis.

Sugar Creek Golf Course's 18 holes challenge all levels of golfers with 6,500 yards of manicured fairways and carpet-like greens. Players launch shots from one of three tee boxes per hole and continue to thwack their dimpled orbs around the course in an effort to challenge the par 70 layout or crack open their golf ball to discover its nougat center. Guests needing to warm up their swings can do so on the course’s driving range.
Led by equine expert and instructor Michelle Booker, Devinwood Farms offers services for riders and steeds on a property with an all-weather arena, heated barn, and picturesque riding trails. Inside the full-care boarding facility, staffers administer daily feeding and stall cleaning. The all-weather riding arena, illuminated by rows of glittering lights, leads outside to local riding trails. Hot- and cold-water wash racks hose down mounts after onsite riding lessons, and stalls provide a place for horses to comfortably hunker down with a good book during blustery nights.
Dale Jarrett Racing Adventure places novice passengers alongside professional drivers for ride-along experiences on Talladega Superspeedway.
