Chorizo, chihuahua cheese, lemongrass, and bamboo shoots are equally at home in Señor Wong’s kitchen, where executive chef Cody Monson fills the menu with Asian Mexican fusion plates. Tacos topped with barbacoa or smoky black beans join entrees such as szechwan steak stir-fry served with jasmine rice. Señor Wong also pairs more traditional bar bites, such as what the Star Tribune thinks “might be the best sweet potato fries in town,” with 18 draft craft beers from breweries such as Surly Brewing Co. and Summit Brewing Company. Weekly special events such as trivia and karaoke further foster the laid-back pub vibe, as patrons can sample sakes or sing lullabies to the Yuzo Sour Baby cocktail, which mixes rye whiskey, sour mix, egg whites, and lemon-peel essence.
Tucked in the basement level of a historic St. Paul building, the Artists' Quarter has a subterranean, classic vibe evoking a bygone era. The club is owned by working jazz musicians, who designed a sound, look and feel for the optimal live experience.
A modern mixed-media collaboration, Bridgman/Packer Dance is the brainchild of Art Bridgman and Myrna Packer, two collaborating choreographers, performers, and Guggenheim Fellows who have spent more than 30 years turning the dance duet on its head with trippy video effects. On this particular evening, the duo will showcase two of their latest works: Double Expose, a raucously sensual journey into the psyche's surreal mindscapes, and Under the Skin, an aesthetic adventure that viscerally challenges ideas of identity as images of the dancers multiply to fill the stage. To deepen the multi-sensory immediacy of each work, the dancers will be integrated with video projections, including animation, live camerawork, and prerecorded footage.
