  • One Love Charters
One Love Charters is owned by brother-and-sister team Jason and Ashley Henry. The siblings grew up in St. Pete Beach, Florida, and remember many family outings on the water. Jason acquired his captain's license in 2001, Ashley provided the boat, and now they lead passengers on tours throughout the region. Their boat, the Nautic Star Sport Deck, is equipped with 12 rod holders for fishing and plush leather upholstery for lounging. Potential landmark sightings?depending on the weather? include Sunshine Skyway Bridge, military landmarks such as Fort DeSoto, and downtown St. Petersburg, where cultural landmarks and architectural marvels abound like fish in the sea or fish in metaphors about the dating pool.

  • The Motorsport Lab
The Motorsport Lab lets drivers tame and test a fleet of classic American muscle cars and exotic, foreign sportsters. Drivers receive instruction before sampling the speed and handling of vehicles such as the Aston Martin DB9, Bentley GT, and Lotus Elise. Instructors either compress racing experiences into 60-minute agility tests or prolong the rush by guiding drivers on three-day excursions to Tampa, the Berkshires, or the nearest no-contact demolition derby. The Motorsport Lab also runs an advanced driving school, teaching students the subtleties of controlling Ferraris and Lamborghinis.

  • Curves
With machines set up in rows to encourage competition, many ordinary gyms cater to men's bodies and psychology, right down to the urinals that were "accidentally" installed in the women's locker room. At Curves, you'll move around a circuit of hydraulic resistance machines that have been designed to work with women's bodies and promote weight loss, protect against osteoporosis, and deal with arthritis. An experienced trainer is always nearby to help manage your machine maneuvering and your muscle making. Instead of fiddling with weight stacks and losing your momentum, the hydraulic machines use your body weight and fitness level to create resistance that matches your abilities, decreasing the risk of soreness or injury. Because traditional lift-and-lower motions create bulky muscles, each machine uses push-and-pull motions to create toned, lean muscles perfect for crushing a grapefruit without looking like you can.

  • US Soccer Resume
US Soccer Resume helps players beef up their athletic CVs on the field and off. Players improve on-the-field skills, such as agility and dribbling, during camps and clinics led by veteran coaches. Their real innovation, though, is in how they support players off the field. The business has created an online soccer database that works, essentially, as the LinkedIn of soccer. Players of all levels create profiles, often embedding videos of their best plays and pictures of their favorite vuvuzela. The whole thing acts as an invaluable resource for players and scouts, the latter of whom check it regularly to snap up fresh talent for their teams.

  • Kayak Nature Adventures
From the moment seasoned nature tour guide Kurt Zuelsdorf first dipped his paddle into Clam Bayou, he knew the mangrove estuary would be the right place to set his kayak tours. But there was a catch—a garbage dump’s worth of rusting shopping carts and waterlogged plastic bags was strewn about the waterway. Undeterred, Kurt hit upon a clever cleanup strategy: people could launch his fleet of kayaks for free, so long as they toted a bag of garbage out of the bayou with them.  Numerous grants, media attention, and awards later, Kurt’s waterway cleanup program has reached its final stages. Now, kayakers and paddlers can freely navigate the mangrove channels, nabbing sights of manatees, herons, and tugboat captains hopelessly lost in the mangroves. An avid nature enthusiast who has kayaked waterways from Wisconsin to Florida, Kurt prizes Clam Bayou, citing the diversity of wildlife along the one-mile stretch. “It’s not like the zoo,” he says. “Every time you hit the water, it’s a completely different experience.”
